DH has just announced that he's going to spend the night in the sitting room so he can watch the Ashes.
I will be cold all by myself in bed.
Bloody cricket.

Have to admit happy to watch it/ in the background - it's slightly more exciting than the Tour de France or any of the other random cycling! It's just come at a really inconvenient time Grin

BoneyBackJefferson · 25/11/2010 17:30

was hoping tht this was a thread about dreadlock holiday Bear

CuddlyNotFat · 25/11/2010 17:30

Poor old DH Hmm - after getting to bed at 2 this a.m was woken up by a snuffly cold-ridden DS at 5.15.

I was so fast asleep (with the absence of snoring!) that I didn't wake up!

DD (7) gleefully announced this morning that poor old Daddy only got 3 hours of sleep!

BoneyBack...I never exactly understood what a dreadlock holiday was and how it related to not liking cricket(although didn't it go on to say I love it?).

Anyone?

lyrics to dreadlock holiday by 10CC

I was walkin' down the street,
Concentratin' on truckin' right
I heard a dark voice beside of me,
And I looked 'round in a state of fright

I saw four faces, one mad; a brother from the gutter.
They looked me up and down a bit and turned to each other

I say, I don't like cricket, oh no, I love it.
I don't like cricket, no no, I love it.

Don't you walk through my words. You got to show some respect.
Don't you walk through my words, Cause you ain't heard me out yet

Well, he looked down at my silver chain.
He said: I'll give you one dollar.
I said: 'You've got to be jokin', man,
It was a present from me mother'

He said: 'I like it, I want it, I'll take it off your hands,
And you'll be sorry you crossed me,
You better understand
That you're alone (a long way from home).

And I say, I don't like Reggae, no no, I love it.
I don't like Reggae, I love it.

Don't you cramp me style, Don't you queer me pitch.
Don't you walk through my words, 'Cause you ain't heard me out yet.

I hurried back to the swimming pool,
sinkin' Pina Colada.
I heard a dark voice beside me say
Would you like something harder

She said: 'I've got it, you want it, my harvest is the best,
And if you try it, You'll like it and wallow in a Dreadlock holiday.

And I say, don't like Jamaica, oh no, I love her.
Don't like Jamaica, oh no, I love her, oh yea

Don't you walk through her words. You got to show some respect.
Don't you walk through her words, 'Cause you ain't heard her out yet

I don't like cricket, oh no, I love it (Dreadlock holiday)
I don't like Reggae, oh no, I love it (Dreadlock holiday)
Don't like Jamaica, oh no, I love her (Dreadlock holiday)

BoneyBackJefferson · 25/11/2010 17:40

sorry posted to early

but other than 10CC liked cricke and reggae I'm not sure

but I got to post the lyrics

[stupidly happy emote]

CuddlyNotFat · 25/11/2010 23:23

Do you know, I have always thought it was
Don't like your make-up (not Jamaica)
and this has always slightly confused me as I was never sure how it fitted into the song! Blush

Cricket brings back happy memories for me. Teenage years spent either lying on touch line sunbathing, or sitting in scorebox flirting wildly with batting side whilst people on pitch screamed 6 or 4 at me! - what's not to like Grin

thenightsky · 25/11/2010 23:28

God, I sound like a Jilly Cooper character!

LotteryWinnersOnAcid · 25/11/2010 23:32

I was left cold and alone in bed last night too in favour of the cricket.

Luckily being heavily pregnant I relished having the whole bed to myself.

Still couldn't sleep though. Hmm

CuddlyNotFat · 26/11/2010 00:32

(sings sadly...)

All by myself, don't wanna be
All by myself any more

although DH has just been to the pub for a swift half and accidentally had 4 instead.Hmm So I don't mind him staying in the sitting room tonight 'cos he's beer-smelly!

MrsSnaplegs · 26/11/2010 05:16

Morning all - if you can't beat them join them Grin

woke up an hour ago, couldn't sleep, now sat downstairs sharing sofa with snoring dog and keeping DH company Wink

Have to admit Stuart Broad is not bad to watch (for a younger man ) Wink

echt · 26/11/2010 05:31

At my Oz school, the cricket is up on a giant projector screen in the staffroom. All day. With the sound down, thank God.

MrsSnaplegs · 26/11/2010 05:43

yep DH has pictures on Sky TV but with the sound down and then radio on for commentary Hmm

Caron1968 · 26/11/2010 06:06

At work. What is the score?

MrsSnaplegs · 26/11/2010 06:17

220-5 Grin

MrsSnaplegs · 26/11/2010 06:33

covers on - rain stopped play - DH asleep, dog asleep - mrs snaplegs wide awake Hmm

pollymere · 02/12/2010 19:23

I had a Dad who played Cricket all year round and often twice in one weekend ( and mid week too!) I don't hate it, and in fact I feel vaguely nostalgic about it but I completely understand how you feel!! I think if you marry a man who likes cricket you just have to put it up with it. I specifically chose a man who is useless playing it and shows no interest in watching it - and I now have these strange things called 'weekends' where I don't have to have lunch early and have a picnic tea.

My Mum used to say "unfortunately the Pope doesn't give annulments on the grounds of cricket" and although you are probably right to feel a little shunted, there are worse things he could be doing! Blush

Hot Water Bottle anyone? Smile

CuddlyNotFat · 02/12/2010 23:54

ooh, we're off again, although tonight he's said it'll only be half an hour before he comes to bed. This from a man who went to a cricket club meeting last night supposedly for an hour and was gone four!

Am I allowed to say that I'm quite glad we didn't get the football?
