GRRRRRRRR! just need to rant! my dd has beautiful long blonde hair, today she came out of school and somelittle *** has cut her hair!!!!at the front it is awful cut down to the root and at the back her pony tail has been mostly cut off :(

im so upset for my dd, why would another child do this?

yes it is cut to the root at the front, so a bob will only tidy up the back of the hair,as her pony tail was hacked off. the school are quite strict on headwear so doubt she will be allowed to wear a fabric headband. but could be good for weekends.

I bet the school would make an exception in this case armani Smile

And yes I hope your DD isn't too upset.

LightlyKilledCrunchyFrog · 24/11/2010 21:36

My DD did this to herself and another child in Nursery, I have never been so mortified in my life. But she didn't do it because she was a little shit, she did it because she was a small child who did not understand cause and effect - ie, she did not yet know that hair does not grow back quickly.

I am sure the other mother feels terrible.

I cut my brother's hair when we were toddlers, he still has the scar. Grin

seeker · 24/11/2010 21:45

Children do this all the time - my dd cut a friend's hair at about this age. Be thankful it wasn't your child who did the cutting - you'd feel far worse then!

ilovefireworks · 24/11/2010 21:46

A few years ago my dd, aged about 5, came home from school with a chunk of hair missing. She has fine fair slow-growing hair and it took ages for it to grow again. At the time she told me all sorts of stories about which child was responsible - I was not happy and had a quiet word with the teachers.

A couple of months ago, aged 10, she finally confessed that she had cut it herself!

Asteria · 24/11/2010 21:51

Oh poor you - that is awful. Sadly not much to be done - it's just one of those things, but hair is one of those funny things that really affect us. I had hair past my wais when I was younger and my brother emptied a tube of superglue into it - I had to have 2ft cut off it and was so upset. Little bugger bit my bottom and left teeth marks too... Still plotting revenge 25 years later!

redflag · 24/11/2010 21:57

I agree it happens, and hair grows.

However, what were the teachers bloody doing when this happened?

WhatsWrongWithYou · 24/11/2010 22:00

Are we sharing hair-cutting stories?

DS2, aged 4, had gorgeous red chin-length waves. He'd started to ask for a haircut and I always gave him a vague 'maybe' answer - he was my baby and I wanted to enjoy those curls for a bit longer.
One afternoon he went off to his room and shut the door, only to emerge with an Elizabeth I at the front, the same at the nape, and random straggling 6 inch long bits everywhere else.
The hairdresser did her best, but there was no denying he was effectively bald front and back for quite some time.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 24/11/2010 22:01

I would be pissed off with the teachers if I were you, though.

MmeLindt · 24/11/2010 22:06

Why should she be pissed off with the teachers?

Presumably the OP's DD stayed still long enough for the other girl to cut her hair?

It is not uncommon for children to cut each other's hair, or their own. DS is 6yo and cut himself a smart little Swiss flag for Swiss National Day in August. Very fetching.

redflag · 24/11/2010 22:13

I would have thought they may have been doing their job, and watching no children are hacking each others hair off!

Hmm
hogshead · 24/11/2010 22:13

oh dear!! this takes me back to 1985 when my sister cut off her hair with some paper scissors' bought from Woolworths that were shaped like bunny rabbit ears after my mum told her off her sucking her hair - she decided to cut it so she couldnt suck it anymore'.

It was 4 days before my uncles wedding, we were bridesmaids and due to have matching french plaits (with lovely fresh flower headbands) and my sister had to have a lovely 80's style page boy cut to mask the damage.

My lovely aunt is still mortified to this day - it was their 25th wedding aniversary last month and at least now we can laugh about it Grin

How many children are in a class, and how can the teacher watch all of them constantly.

My DD had her hair cut at Kindergarten, she and her friend were playing "Hairdressers".

It was a class of 22 children, with 4 staff and no one noticed.

In school it is one teacher.

MumNWLondon · 24/11/2010 22:18

I would be livid and devastated. DD is 7 hair grows very slowly and a cut like that would take 3-4 years to grow again.

muggglewump · 24/11/2010 22:19

My DD managed to do it with me in the house.
You only have to take your eyes off them for a second.
Teachers can't watch every kid all the time.

I was upset too, but it will grow back and you will laugh eventually.

redflag · 24/11/2010 22:20

Well there are 30 in my ds class and 3 adults supervising, Would you say the same if it had been her eye?

Children in a class who have been given scissors SHOULD be sitting at a table with a teacher! Its not bloody rocket science is it!

peeringintothevoid · 24/11/2010 22:22

Oh YANBU! Shock Shock I'd have been gutted if this had happened to DD - her hair was absolutely gorgeous at that age.

I've always loved her hair more than she's prepared to put up with the brushing though, and finally her and ex-H wore me down until I said "fine, get it bloody cut then". He took her to a fucking barbers, who gave her the worst haircut ever. She has really thick hair, so she looked like a mushroom. Grin Even ex-H said "it doesn't look quite how I pictured it". Grin

It grows back eventually (years and bloody years!). Angry

girliefriend · 24/11/2010 22:24

oh bless my brother did this to the neighbours little girl when they were both 4 - her mum was mightly peed off as she had a complete friar tuck look going on Grin

MmeLindt · 24/11/2010 22:25

If there are 30 DC in the class and they are doing something that involves cutting, how can the teacher be at every table? It is just not possible.

MmeLindt · 24/11/2010 22:25

lol at Friar Tuck.

lazylula · 24/11/2010 22:26

A pencil in a child's eye would cause as much samage as a pair of scissors so should they be restricted access to? As already mentioned by myself and at least 1 other person it is quite normal for Reception children to have easy access to scissors.

lazylula · 24/11/2010 22:27

samage- damage!!

muggglewump · 24/11/2010 22:28

DD also looked like Friar Tuck. I sobbed and said 'she's not pretty any more'Blush

I think it's hilarious now, 6 years later.Grin

BelleDameSansMerci · 24/11/2010 22:29

YANBU at all. I'd be livid. And I would absolutely expect the school to make an exception (if necessary) with regard to a hairband.

FanjolinaJolie · 24/11/2010 22:29

I'd be very unhappy too. Glad the teacher came and spoke to you about it.

Unfortunately cutting hair seems to be a developmental milestone they all seem to hit.

Hope you are able to get a hairdresser to give her a lovely cut to make your DD feel better.
