Considering buying some Uggs...

I know I have been vocal about them being vile, which they are, but the past two mornings walking DS to school, my feet have been frozen in my leather boots. Loads of mums have got them on at the school and I've been jealously eyeing up theiir fur-lining, thinking how snuggly theit toes must feel.

I might get some. AIBU or should I stick with my leather boots and freeze yet not worry that I look like Kerry Katona? Confused

Can't afford them myself but would love some. They look so warm and comfy.

cupcakebakerer · 24/11/2010 21:22

Go on treat yourself - get some Uggs. You know you want them...It's one of those little luxuries that will make you smile everytime you slip them on for the school run. I'm not on commission, promise.

LoveRedShoes · 24/11/2010 21:40

Found my old uggs at the back of the closet this morning. TOASTY comfy feet all day Smile. Forgot how wonderful they were!

TattyDevine · 24/11/2010 22:34

Go the Plumdales. £200. Get them from very.co.uk

10% off when you open an account. Take 3 is 3 interest free payments. That's 3 x £60 a month.

I keep plugging Very today. No, I dont work for them!

Plumdales are a good length for short or stocky legs. They sort of taper - they are assymetric, so they dont cut you off in one spot. Easy on the eye.

Nospringflower · 24/11/2010 22:39

I've been exactly the same - not that keen on them but am now succumbing. Have just checked House of Fraser website as I have a gift voucher for there. What size should I order? I'm usually a 5 so should I order a 5? Think I read they stretch but dont want to order a 4 and them be too small. Any help gratefully received!

I've not had a cold for two years - and for two years I've worn Ugg boots. I think there might be a link. My feet have never got cold.

AnyFucker · 24/11/2010 22:44

Grin @ animation

do Ugg boots kill viruses stone dead then ?

re the size, best to try on I think

I am usually a 6, but they are rather big so I borrow my dd's size 5's and they are just slightly too snug

Nospringflower · 24/11/2010 22:47

I know - was hoping to buy online but think I will go in at the weekend - fancied getting next day delivery so would have warm feet sooner!

Animation · 24/11/2010 22:48

I wore a fur coat as well - and no knickers.Grin

Ooooh it annoys me when people pull the "Uggs wear down at one side and give you gammy knees and back ache". No, Uggs don't, but the ones you can get in Dunnes for twelve quid might do that. You can't compare the two things, it's like me saying that all Mulberry bags are poor quality because I saw someone using a knock off from Primark and it looked crap.

Uggs are a pure indulgence, yes, but if I'm going to spend £200 pounds on a pair of shoes I'm going to make sure they're worth it.

Just realised how het up I'm getting about sheepskin boots.

Calm, dinosaur, calm......

chocolatestar · 25/11/2010 10:51

I actually had a dream last night that I was out shopping for a pair of Uggs last night. If only!

Can you really wear them in wet weather?

alibubbles · 25/11/2010 13:36

Plumdales are £99 here shoomooch

LadyWellian · 25/11/2010 13:41

alibubbles yes, as long as you're no bigger than a size 2!

Pixieonthemoor · 25/11/2010 14:09

I have lived in mine for the last 3 winters and, whilst I have had the comfiest, cosiest feet in the world, they are the ruination of your feet!! All other shoes feel appallingly uncomfortable in comparison but the worst thing is that, because of the lack of any kind of support in them, my achilles tendons are now really playing up and are quite sore. So my advice is - use sparingly and be careful as they are totally addictive!!

wintersnow · 25/11/2010 14:22

You shouldn't worry about what other people think.... wear what you want. I got some second hand on ebay (thought £190 was a little too much!)and they are the most comfortable thing I've ever worn, you don't get the 'ugg shuffle' if you buy a genuine pair, they are pretty well made but they aren't waterproof which is the only down side. Get them in black or brown as a light pair will get ruined!

MangoTango · 25/11/2010 14:29

Reading this thread has now made me think of "Bungle Feet" every time I see someone wearing Uggs. They do look a bit like that! Grin

slowshow · 25/11/2010 14:38

I avoided them for years but I've finally caved and think they're wonderful.

Beware of the sizing though - Australian sizes convert to UK half sizes, so if you buy a pair labelled as a UK 5 it's really UK 5.5, etc. I'm a 4.5 so I bought a 5 and they were too big. The size 4s are perfect. They're actually supposed to fit snugly so don't be tempted to get them big so you can wear thick socks underneath. Apparently you're supposed to wear them without socks. I'm sure it's heavenly for the toes but the pong? Hmm

TattyDevine · 25/11/2010 14:43

Mine dont pong slowshow. I'm not a smelly foot person though - I dont know whether they would if you are a smelly foot person.

I think some people are, some people aren't, and if you are a smelly foot person, then there's not a lot you can do about it!

Rebeccaruby · 25/11/2010 20:01

I think they look horrible but then, I'm thinking about me (5"6 and 12 stone)and they would look very different on a model type person. I don't think they look as if they're worth the money, though. Posters have commented on their orthopaedic qualities. I live in ballet shoes (no arch support at all) and have no problems, so I'm probably not the person to comment!

Floozle · 25/11/2010 21:09

Do they really cost anywhere near as much to make as everyone is paying? Methinks theyre ripping people off for the name. And anyone who thinks that a pair of slippers are suitable to wear in the snow is seriously kidding themselves. Arent they?

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 25/11/2010 21:40

shudoo have 20% off incl UGGS, code VCSHUDOO
I really want the plumdales but I'm normally an 8 which means I need a 7.5 I'm guessing and they are sold out in that size Sad
