AIBU to not want a bank holiday for this royal wedding. When life is hard enough it means my business which is already struggling will lose a days trading. I am not a republican but I am definitely not a royalist.

meh.

It's a bank holiday weekend anyway straight after easter so seriously how much difference can it make having a 4 day weekend rather than a 3 day weekend?

KatieScarlett2833 · 23/11/2010 16:54

I want a Bank Holiday regardless of reason.

AuntiePickleBottom · 23/11/2010 16:55

i hope it's a bank hoilday, i don't work fridays and will enjoy the day off with the kids :)

2shoes · 23/11/2010 16:56

yabu
I love the idea of an extra day

AppleHEAD · 23/11/2010 16:57

Maybe your right..... I guess I can lay in a dark room and not think about the accounts.

4 day bank holiday - you can guarantee bad weather ..

FancyALittle · 23/11/2010 16:58

I'm looking forward to it - long weekend over mine and DH's first wedding anniversary. Woop!

If it's any consolation, in my job bank holidays are part of the holiday entitlement so it'll just come off some other time anyway.

pointydog · 23/11/2010 16:58

I do feel a bit sorry for businesses that will lose money because of this.

AbsofCroissant · 23/11/2010 16:59

I also feel sorry for businesses, but the thing is, especially compared to other European countries, the UK has very, very few public holidays. And it sucks.

AuntiePickleBottom · 23/11/2010 17:00

do business have to close though or pay extra to there staff.

AppleHEAD · 23/11/2010 17:01

We will just pay everyone and not take it out of their holiday.... Small business so we will feel it.

OP posts:
diddl · 23/11/2010 17:03

I´m not sure about that, Abs.

Here in Germany we don´t seem to get many tbh.

And for example they stick to the date here, rather than tack it on to the nearest weekend.

And if it happens to fall over a weekend, you don´t get anothr day off instead.

pointydog · 23/11/2010 17:08

How many bank holidays are there in foreign lands then?

emptyshell · 23/11/2010 17:10

I don't want the Bank Holiday when it's going to fall... last thing I want around that week in April is time on my hands to think - should have "giving birth" worked into my diary then and am going to have free time to dwell on that fact now.

ValiumSingleton · 23/11/2010 17:13

enjoy the day off! you don't need to be republican or monarchist. just human.

it's a birthday in my family though, so kind of strange to think that'll it'll forever be associated with them.

isn't the 1st of may a bank hol in the uk anyway? nice long stretch!! you have good friday and easter monday in the uk too, which is another four day stretch. very close to each other this year I think. that's only the week before I think!

AbsofCroissant · 23/11/2010 17:14

Austria - 13
Belgium - 17
Cyprus - 16
Cz Republic - 12
Denmark - 12
France - 10 (plus all the "pont" days)
Germany - 8 - same as UK
Greece - 13
Italy - 12
Malta - 15
Netherlands - 7 (not moving there anytime soon)
Poland - 13
Portugal - 13
Spain - 16

So it seems the UK, Netherlands and Germany are not the places to live if you want vaycay. (apologies if I did get wrong, I was counting from a page in wikipedia).
