Is there a person alive who would want to recieve the following:

A gift box of bubble bath and bath salts

A comedy inflatable sofa with a bottle of budweiser in

A Jack Daniels coaster. ONE. With JD miniature.

Christmas socks

A lone champagne glass with a mini bottle of cava with 3 champagne truffles.

Fuck it. What a waste of time, effort and money.

I am very pleased actually as my family and friends have all agreed not to bother with presents for adults this year, so people will not feel the need to spend a fiver/tenner they can ill afford on crud like this.

Christ, I am not as miserable as that OP sounds!

I love and adore Christmas. But bollocks to spending what amounts to about £500 on presents for adults.

I don't see the point of secret santa either. Everyone spends a tenner or so on SHITE like the above.

I do agree but sometimes they come in handy for Secret Santa gifts when you haven't got a Scooby about the person you are supposed to be buying for (especially men).

I agree, these presents are crap and quite patently say 'I couldn't be arsed to think of a proper present for you'. A few years ago i got given a box with a miniature of Archers and a shot glass in. I hate Archers and wasn't really in the mood for doing shots, what with being pregnant at the time.

Oh no poor you - a teacher.

How many chocolate plaques from Thorntons 'Thank you Mrs Eupehmia' do you get Grin

I threw away about 3 tubs of body butter which came in various gift sets last year.

I like champagne. So very fricking year I get one of those gift sets with a mini bottle of cava in it.

I mean yes thank you for the present but bloody hell what a waste of your money. I would have preferred it if you had spent the £6 or so on a bottle of wine for yourself and bought me a lottery ticket or something.

NO presents for me this year. Sod it adults don't need to bother.

I use body lotion every day - who the hell wants a crepey decolletage Confused

I'd happily have the bath salts and the bath oil over useless ornaments any day.

In general I like stuff I can use up like chocs/smellies/flowers. I don't want other peoples tasteless shit lying around.

I have never bought one of those sets and never will. It would upset me too much to waste my hard earned and scarce cash on such tripe. Christmas socks though... :)

Rubbish, and they cost the earth just because they are in a box. If you take out what is in the box it would cost about £2 Angry

Euphemia what sort of gifts would you like from your pupils?

Agree gifts sets are naff but handy if you have no idea what a person likes or if the gesture is the most important thing about the gift ,for teachers etc......

I have a couple of offending items in the house because of the 3 for 2 offers from Boots/Sainsbos. Off to look at the contents!

Box 1: Soap & Glory mini series containing body butter, shower gel, body polish (is this a dressed up term for lotion?), bubble bath & shower puff. This is for dd's friend birthday.

Box 2" Fcuk containing bodywash, sugarscrub, bodycream (the new lotion?), bodyspray and body polisher (a puff maybe?). Can't get into the box to check as would break seal. Have no idea who this is going to be for. It only has a discreet fcuk on the side so not too bad.

I find these sets really handy myself, some aren't too bad. I hate getting make up or make up sets of any kind though. Make up is a personal thing that I'd rather choose myself, same with hair products. I donate any make up sets to DD's vast collection of dressing up collection. Same with 90% of handbags and jewellery.... God I'm a nightmare to buy for Blush

It is the 3 for 2 offers that get me - usually I have to scrabble around for something to make up the offer ....

I know it will just fine just to buy the two items, but then you queue and the sales person asks why you aren't taking up the offer ..!!

We agree about all christmassy things today.

It annoys me because it cuts down on stock of REAL presents.

YANBU. £10 tat probably only cost £1.70 to produce. Time to blow the lid off the false 'perceived value'.

Watch the 3 for 2 offers on these 'gift sets' - come January the reductions in the sale are usually 33%, so the shops make exactly the same margin whenever you buy it.
