'Pulls judgey pants wedgie out of ass'

'Adjusts grammar pedant hat'

'Does cat's bum mouth, clicks 'Remove from friends''.

YADNBU, I have done a recent facebook friend cull for the very same reason!

gregtheguineapig · 22/11/2010 13:28

...don't have many friends now....

Chil1234 · 22/11/2010 13:29

YANBU... and you also get the MN Sod's Law Avoidance Medal for having managed to start a thread about spelling and not putting a typo in the title :) (The Pedant Posse will let you get away with 'unfriend' in this context)

Alouiseg · 22/11/2010 13:31

I correct their spelling for them, it generally gets me culled as a friend.

Problem solved :o

Lol, thanks. I did proof read it a few times to be sure!

Seriously though, how does a woman who enjoyed all the benefits of our country's free education system, get to the age of 30 and still not know how to spell 'tomorrow'?

Sorry, we can't be friends.

I hate being bitchy about spelling. But I do have one friend who literally spells every word - not so much incorrectly - as weirdly. I guess it's text speak-ish, but sometime it is just imcomprehensible. Some examples

"Eva" "Wiv" "bout" "famly"

She NEVER puts the G on ING ending words, she refers to her DC's as "lil baba's" and she says "huggle" for cuddle when NOT speaking to children.

Actualy, to be honest, I just don't really like her, and therefore I find it teeth grindingly annoying. My best friend writes in a similar way, but I love her and don't notice. Blush

lainey1981 · 22/11/2010 13:33

YADNBU. I have considered doing the same over certain friends' use of 'of' instead of 'have' (as in I should of ...)

gggrrrr it really gets my goat.

apologies for any unintended typos or grammatical errors Wink

notpartofthelifeplan · 22/11/2010 13:34

I only have family and proper friends on fb if I defriended those with poor spelling I would have very few left.

My poor old sister has made some right clangers on there. The other day she posted about how it was soul destroying watching her sibling being destroyed. I'm her sibling, I'm not being destroyed. Confused I don't know who she was talking about but sibling wasn't the word she was looking for!

PatFig · 22/11/2010 13:43

yabu

not everyone is as inteligent as yourself and people do have problems spelling for various reasons

scoobytoo · 22/11/2010 13:59

I am terrible for typos but I think typos are different from bad spelling.
The most common one I see is 'DefinAtely' drives me mad!!

Animation · 22/11/2010 14:01

Is it a power thing?

AbsofCroissant · 22/11/2010 14:02

It could be worse - you could be friends with someone who "works in new media" (read - is unemployed and spends all his time faffing about on the internet and twitter AND thinks he's some kind of genius). It gets very tiresome, but I haven't gotten around to blocking him yet. I really should do that ...

I dont mind spelling but I hate those chain status thingys - the ones that 93% of people wont post. Some of them are very thinly veiled racism.

2old4thislark · 22/11/2010 14:12

Just hover your mouse over the offending person in the news feed and click 'hide'.

I was getting very irritated by a teenager who didn't seem to know the difference between 'bored' and 'board'. I gave in and asked if she was made of cardboard and was deleted soon afterwards Grin

madonnawhore · 22/11/2010 14:15

AbsofCroissant, think yourself lucky you're not friends with someone involved in a new age borderline cult who keeps posting links to articles about enlightened spiritual teachers who have learnt to live on light and air alone (and, for extra offence to my intelligence, how their teachings could help starving children in Africa - WTF); or how vapour trails left by aeroplanes in the sky are really toxic mind pollutants, dispersed into our atmosphere by some conspiratorial 'other', hell bent on destroying the environment.

I would love to unfriend her but I'm compelled to keep her out of a morbid sense of curious loathing, just to see what batshit crazy thing she will post next.

Is it I want to feel superior thing?

madonnawhore · 22/11/2010 14:18

No.

OP posts:
nottonightdearihaveaheadache · 22/11/2010 14:19

you know once you've clicked "hide" how do you reverse this?

4andnotout · 22/11/2010 14:19

I have a friend whose status read "some people are just so dum!" she wasn't even being ironic.

Ghoulysses · 22/11/2010 14:22

I have quite a few friends who write as they would speak in the local vernacular.

Really makes me cringe.

I think that I am an okay speller, but always seem to end up missing a word when typing up a post myself and I curse myself for it each and every time.

Animation · 22/11/2010 14:23

No, to the OP - re. bad spelling polluting her FB environment. Is it rooted in a need to feel superior?

madonnawhore · 22/11/2010 14:26

For the second time Animation; my answer is no. Although I get the sense you would like to think it is and, in turn, judge me and feel superior yourself.
