To think I am the worst sister in the world

My sister has cancer, it is being treated but as soon as one of the tumors shrinks another one pops up Sad.
Tomorrow sis has to go for a lung biopsy in Hammersmith and I said I would go with her.

Sadly Friday night DS2 got some sort of bug D&V, he was ok by Sunday and I thought it would be ok, then last night DP decorated the bathroom floor, and is in bed clutching a bucket and running a temp.
I feel a bit sick myself and phoned Sis straight away to tell her.

I will not be able to go with her now as she can not risk getting it Sad also she is staying with my mum who is wheelchair dependent so I can't go near either of them as the last thing mum needs is a D&V bug.

I feel so bloody useless Sad

You know you are not the worst sister in the world - you are doing the right thing for her by staying away so she doesn't get your bug.

It's really shit for you as you want to help her but can't (which, BTW, makes you a good sister) Sad

Sympathy, and I hope your sister's treatment goes well

Numberfour · 22/11/2010 11:48

Sad It is not your fault that you're sick. You really would be the worst sister in the world to take your bug to your mum and your sister.

Get better first, then take care of them.

You are, by the way, being very unreasonable to think so badly of yourself.

RunawayChristmasTree · 22/11/2010 11:49

Thank you, I am just wollowing because I am so sad I can't go to support her

You have done the right thing - what a tough call. Is there anything you could do to make you feel better - a bit of a surprise on line shopping delivery of nice easy to prep food, snack stuff, flowers etc?

Make up a special disk of music from your past that she could listen to?

Just letting her know you care is no doubt an enormous support to her.

RunawayChristmasTree · 22/11/2010 11:58

I will try to see her later in the week as long as we are all bug free, otherwise I will see her on the 3rd December as she is coming for the weekend to help at DS2s school fete, then I have Christmas open house so she can catch up with friends and then it is DS2s Cub carol concert so a busy fun weekend, I hope

How horrible.

Hope you're feeling better about situation. Bugs need to stay away from hospitals and people with weakened immune systems if possible, don't they.

Hope sister's treatment goes well.

RunawayChristmasTree · 22/11/2010 12:08

I think I knew in my heart the moment DS2 started being sick I was not going to be able to go with her Sad I could not with a good heart even if I was feeling fine because if I gave it to sis or someone else in the same situation as sis I would not forgive myself

You are absolutely doing the right thing and I am sure your sis understands this you sound lovely.

I have some immune issues and asthma and lost a baby nearly at term earlier this year so am pretty anxious about getting sick as I am six months pregnant now.

I am pretty annoyed that a friend (who knows all of the above) came to visit me a week ago with her sick child (" I didn't know whether to bring him...") and I have been in bed for the last week with the same bug...

RunawayChristmasTree · 22/11/2010 12:21

Lucy, sorry for your loss, I try never to take my children anywhere if they are unwell and I would never knowingly take a bug to anyone.

Hope you feel better soon, and congratulations on this pregnancy xx

you are doing the right thing and as such are the BEST sister in the world, definitely not the worst.

Hope you feel better soon and hope all goes well with your sisters treatment.

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 22/11/2010 12:24

your doing the best thing, no one with cancer needs another bug to fight. The Hammersmith is a wonderful place and she'll be in good hands :) (its where DH has his appointments)

ApocalypseCheese · 22/11/2010 12:26

You are the best sister in the world imo, you are keeping her safe.

RunawayChristmasTree · 22/11/2010 12:55

Lisa, she has been going there for a while, I think she is going to get a cab home now after it has been done
