Because they are morons, Memoo. Especially if they are male and sneakily (sp) do it whilst their unsuspecting wives are out shopping/taking dd to work.

Memoo · 21/11/2010 21:32

your DH deserves a whipping with a branch of holly!!

OP posts:
agedknees · 21/11/2010 21:33

My dh deserves to have a branch of holly put where the sun don't shine!!!

PinkieMinx · 21/11/2010 21:34

I don't understand why people put a tree up before about 20th Dec so YANBU!! [Bah humbug face]

Meglet · 21/11/2010 21:36

yanbu.

I don't understand why trees go up before the 24th Dec [competitive late tree putter-upper].

A1980 · 21/11/2010 21:37

The tree stays up until twelfth night. So even if you don't put it up until mid December, the thing is still up for about 3 weeks.

Why would you want it up any longer than that?

DioneTheDiabolist · 21/11/2010 21:39

YABU. My sis put hers up today. She suffers SAD and having lots of twinkly lights and pretty sparkly things about makes her happy. She did ask me if she should, I told her YES. It makes her happy and I like her to be happy.Grin

ClaireDeLoon · 21/11/2010 21:41

YANBU, I don't get it either. It's not Christmas yet. How bored with it will you be by December 25th?

We put ours up the weekend before Christmas. That's plenty of time for finding needles everywhere.

Ripeberry · 21/11/2010 21:43

That's the reason, they are all so depressed they need to have the trees and decorations up NOW!

Sallykitten · 21/11/2010 21:48

Actually this year they might have a point. APparently the Scandinavian Christmas tree stocks have been severely depleted this year and only around one quarter of the normal supply of real trees are going to be available and prices for a normal tree are predicted to be shooting up to around £43.

People are being advised to buy early because stocks are expected to run out very early. Stocks of artificial ones are also expected to run very low as a result.

I have an artificial one cos I don't like hoovering up needles so it goes up on about the 22nd anyway.

But this year all the humbugs might end up with no trees so it really will be bah, humbug.

piscesmoon · 21/11/2010 21:53

Rubbish-it is just to make sure that you buy one. I will be waiting until nearly Christmas- and I won't be taking it down on Boxing Day. I think we could move it and get it all over with by 10th Dec the rate some people go!

ShanahansRevenge · 21/11/2010 21:55

Oh Sally! How could you let me know that and ruin my plans! I have been hoping to hold out until around the 15th so I don't end up with a bucket full of bald branches again!

I don't want to buy early this year!

I don't WANT an artifcial one either! Waaah!

ShanahansRevenge · 21/11/2010 21:56

Piscesmoon....feel better now...you talk sense!

PigeonPie · 21/11/2010 22:00

YADNBU! and Wow! I thought we were the only ones to put it up on the last weekend before Christmas; we do keep it up till twelfth night and that's long enough.

emptyshell · 21/11/2010 22:02

I'd have mine up by now to cheer me up normally - still waiting to get the house bought so can't. Got lots of nice new shiny stuff to put on it as well - if we don't exchange soon I'm putting it up regardless and marching to the new house with a full-decorated tree on my shoulder.

BelligerentGhoul · 21/11/2010 22:04

YANBU. Bonkers.

Ours goes up on about the 20th December and comes down on around the 27th. I love it but don't want it around for any longer than that.

winnybella · 21/11/2010 22:04

You put your tree up on Christmas Eve, in the late afternoon, when the first star is up.

Everything else is wrong.

piscesmoon · 21/11/2010 22:06

On Boxing Day there will be a AIBU thread about taking it down-lots of posters will say they can't stand the mess and theirs is down too! (Things are actually better if you anticipate and wait!)

ratspeaker · 21/11/2010 22:07

Some folk must like having the tree and deccies up
In the street my DD used to live in there was a flat that had the deccies up, lights in the window - before Halloween

Last year we were really late puttingt he tree up, i was really distracted as I had shingles

fedupofnamechanging · 21/11/2010 22:16

Mine went up last weekend. I really like the lights and it makes my house look cosy.

In my defence, I will take it down on New Years Day, as for me Christmas is well and truly over by then.

Sallykitten · 21/11/2010 22:36

No it's true. In 2004 30,000 hectares of Christmas trees were pulped because of some blip in the EU agricultural policy. They would have been coming to market this year.

Plus last year the weather in Scandinavia destroyed 30% of the remaining trees and they are becoming a lot more popular with the emerging middle classes in former soviet bloc countries so there's less stock.

My artificial ones alright, you can't tell unless you're right close up to it and even then you have to have a feel to check.

Tee2072 · 22/11/2010 06:10

Well, ours is going up the first weekend in December, but it's sitting over there in a box as I hate real trees. Too much mess for me.

If I still lived in the US it would be going up this weekend, the Saturday after Thanksgiving is fairly traditional for trees to go up there. At least in my family!

emptyshell · 22/11/2010 08:07

The entertainment from watching a three legged cat trying to climb the tree is more amusing than the average TV schedule at this point in the year.

OK so the tree is at about a 70 degree angle after a couple of days of the feline onslaught but it's funny.

ethelina · 22/11/2010 08:20

Up on christmas eve, down on 27th. Anything else makes my teeth itch.

Igglybuff · 22/11/2010 08:28

I want to put the decs up now! I love the sparkliness.

So bah to the rest of you Grin
