www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/WorkingHoursAndTimeOff/DG_10029451

Daily rest - a break between working days

If you are an adult worker you have the right to a break of at least 11 hours between working days. This means as an adult worker, if you finish work at 8.00 pm on Monday you should not start work until 7.00 am on Tuesday.

Weekly rest - the 'weekend'
If you are an adult worker you have the right to either:

?an uninterrupted 24 hours clear of work each week
?an uninterrupted 48 hours clear each fortnight

Blimey I've never seen that before EcoLady. I worked 65 hours per week over 13 days per fortnight for years with a week of holiday here and there when I cleaned the house Grin

LogLady -sorry your rotas are crap. It'll soon be over.

mumeeee · 22/11/2010 16:16

Wel I have actually worked 11 days in a row because of some staffing problems butonly have to worlk a couple of days this week. so that makes up for it. I work with adults with learning disabilities ina supported living house so like nurses I work shifts

ENormaSnob · 22/11/2010 16:22

It's shit isn't it.

ISNT · 22/11/2010 16:37

Ecolady is the UK signed up to that though? I have never heard that as law. I don't think it is the law is it?

OP, not the same but DH often does between 8 and 11 days in a row, today is the last of a stretch of 8 so he's off tomorrow, but I'll be at work Sad

On the hours he switched from lates (10pm finish) to earlies (5.30 am start) quite often.

ISNT · 22/11/2010 16:38

Forgot to sympathise. Sorry.

That's shit for you OP Sad

FancyALittle · 22/11/2010 16:38

A little unreasonable to be 'really pissed off'. A bit annoyed, maybe.

I know people who regularly work 12 x 13 hour night shifts. How that matches up with EcoLady's link I don't know as they're supposedly EWTD-compliant rotas.
