AIBU?

To agree with a 15 year old questioning why the white race can’t control their alcohol intake

A very close friend of mine is a Humanities specialist in an inner-city multi-ethnic secondary school. This academic year she has been permitted to teach PSHE (Personal Social Heath Education).

Last night we had dinner at her place and she started to tell me about a conversation that was sparked by a 15year old girl of African origin in a lesson on Friday, which was about ?The effects of alcohol?.
Pupil: Why can?t the majority of the white race control themselves when it comes to alcohol.

Teacher: Can you try and expand on what your?re saying maybe give some examples.

Pupil: When I?ve watched programmes on telly documenting Brits abroad, booze Britain, cop shows etc, you always see white people drinking to the extreme and causing more work for the police, damage to council property (criminal damage, urinating in shop entrances, vomiting, fighting etc) , disturbing the peace and the occasional flash of their bums. Why can?t they handle their drink.

AIBU, because I feel that the girl highlighted some salient points which I somehow agree with. Growing up I always saw white teenagers drinking on street corners and I have never been asked by a kid of any other race to go into a shop and buy some alcohol for them.

Furthermore, when am out with my friends from various races, its always the my white counterparts who all of a sudden develop social shyness and need a drink before they can get on the dance floor or speak to the opposite sex....WHY!!!

Apparently the pupil went on to say that an elder in her community used a analogy of a werewolf to describe alcohol and white people. In the day they are normal law abiding citizens, then at night they switch into a uncontrollable wolf looking to cause devastation.

Now I know this isn?t true of all white people but does seem to be a typical feature.

Ha ha. Very funny OP. A bit like saying that all gun crime in the UK is perpetrated by the afro caribbean community and all terrorism is only done by Muslims. All complete rubbish.

Those aren't typos. Those are systemic failures to know the difference between "to" and "too", "your" and "you're", the need for a capital letter after a full stop etc. etc.

Booze Britain? Oh ffs. That's right up there with 'pc gorn mad' and 'nanny state' for nonsensical, rabble rousing Sun headlining.

Where I grew up - in Liverpool - you could see a variety of races getting pissed on the weekend. When I was at University in Bradford, my fellow members of the white race, along with some of that black race and some of the asian race(rolls eyes) who I shared digs with would go out partying on the weekend and see plenty of people of all races pissed as farts out and about. They were called "Students".

Having visited the West Indies and various countries in Africa a number of times I can assure you that the black race enjoy a bevvie as much as anyone else. Perhaps we could suggest that "Ibiza Uncovered" does a cultural exchange with a shebeen in Botswana or some of the more salubrious bars in Jamaica?

YABU
All that 15 year old girl pointed out was that...

  1. Her 'Elder' is racist for calling them whiteys werewolves.
  2. She has very bad taste in television.
  3. That she's exposed to the drinking culture in Britain, but it doesn't mean there aren't drinking cultures elsewhere.

As her teacher I would have asked her about knife crime. What you see in the news and media is about black boys being knifed or knifing each other. Its a news story and it most certainly doesn't mean that every black boy from here to the other side of the world is a knife weilding maniac.

Stupid post OP and actually shows your friend's lack of practice when it comes to teaching PSE.

I think your friend's pupil is a racist.I hope she is reported to the LEA and her parent's involved in the same way a white kid would be treated if they made a similar comment about minorities.

I have to say that I have never seen anyone white, black, yellow, green, or tartan turn into a wolf at night.......or have I just led a sheltered life?

I'm sorry but I find this thread a howler..........

I just don't understand why people who claim to have a perfect grasp of spelling and grammar show such a complete lack of said grasp when posting on tinternet. Typos aside if you normally write and type correctly, why dispense with it on a message board?

needafootmassage "The White British students in the classroom can talk about their perceptions too, and hopefully go away realising that not every Black boy is a mugger". This troubles me as well. What makes you think that the average white british student thinks that all black boys are muggers? That is a really weird thing to say.

Personally I work on the assumption that most people are not racist unless they give me reason to think otherwise.

And todays news was nice for me - people of my colour which is white with brown spots all over... we are in a class of our own, very superior beings. It's the moles if you have over 100 as I definitely do. Apparently you look 7 years younger than people without them and your bones do better long term, all sorts of advantages. White with brown spots is obviously the way to go.

More seriously a load of lies are peddled to young people by their community groups of all kinds. In some the materials are illegal used for educational purposes and in others children have been beaten by religious instructors contrary to the law (and prosecuted). We do need to keep a check on what is being said in all groups (and I'd include fundamentalist christians in that including that case in the perss yesterday about black christian church where you were told to get yourself into debt and not even have £60 on your oyster card if you had not paid your dues to the church, if that is true) never mind all the other groups. So the solution is to ensure the children are open to wide range of influences.

YABU and this is a very racist view. It's like saying all black men are muggers, all Jews are tightfisted, all Asians are terrorists etc etc.

Sounds like you and this girl read waaaay too much Daily Mail imo. Hmm
