is this the 'bah humbug' thread?

what a bunch of moaning minnies (and mickeys i'll be bound)

CIN not only raises vital funds for projects for our young people, it DOES raise awareness of how cash-strapped some vital services are.

joydivisionovengloves · 19/11/2010 16:17

YANBU. It is the worst night of telly ever. I feel forced to go out for the evening to avoid celebrity smugness and general twattery.

ladyfirenze · 19/11/2010 16:20

glynis - i'm not against the principle, just the methods used! and to be fair, this is a nice safe place to get it off me chest.....

GlynistheMenace · 19/11/2010 16:27

ladyfirenze, bad timing....i wasn't directing comment at you, sorry if it looked like that....i totally disagree with and detest the srt of emotional blackmail you describe.

but a few films of some kiddies bouncing about on a trampoline paid for with CIN fund money, for one night a year?

chill out, it's only tv Wink

alemci · 19/11/2010 16:28

i hate it too.

ladyfirenze · 19/11/2010 16:30

yes, you are right suppose... but friday tv is already rubbish - sigh. Still there's i'm a sleb Grin

pinkstarlight · 19/11/2010 16:30

i only want to watch harry judd on strictly come dancing, then im happy to turn over

GlynistheMenace · 19/11/2010 16:33

which i shall be watching too Blush

did my bit for CIN by buying raffle tickets and paying a small fee at nursery Wink

and it's MNs fault!!! i can't look at Sir Terry after the picture of 'not so little Terry' that you guys keeps posting Shock

princessparty · 19/11/2010 16:42

They paid for a children's playground in our very very very rich village where every kids garden has a playground. Not all good causes

GlynistheMenace · 19/11/2010 16:53

but someone must have applied for that grant.

the criteria is very strict, i can tell you (having had to submit an application myself, it's worthy of payment for merely understanding the paperwork Shock )

GlynistheMenace · 19/11/2010 16:56

sorry, posted before had finished Blush

it's not CINs fault is it? have you asked the persons responsible about it?

maybe they thought local children might need a common place to meet and socialise, thus discouraging the 'i'm alright jack' mentality?

ChippingIn · 19/11/2010 17:00

Bouncingblueberries - he gets paid from many different places, it all gets done through his agent/accountants. He was asked to do it, said yes - assumed it would be voluntary, not paid. When he found out he was mortified and gave a large donation.

I have never seen a photo of little/large Terry and have no desire to do so!!

Hulababy · 19/11/2010 17:02

I quite like it - cheesy yes, but a good cause overall. I sometimes watch bits of it, never all of it. It's certainly harmless imo.

lollypoplady · 19/11/2010 17:04

Pissed off eastenders isn't on Blush

capricorn76 · 19/11/2010 17:15

Its for a good cause but I don't think I could stomach yet another news reader pretending to be a famous singer or doing a 'funny' dance routine or watch some over enthusiastic fame whore sitting in a bath of beans. I'll probably donate but won't watch.

goingnowhere1 · 19/11/2010 17:47

I am glad I am working tonight. It's really boring tv.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 19/11/2010 18:00

I hate it, but that because it often falls on my birthday and I don't like to share.

giraffescantdancelikeannw · 19/11/2010 18:20

I don't mind it, if I have it on I just flick over at the crap bits. Biut this year am skint so no money to donate, I am instead doing a childline shift so I dont feel too guilty, I will donate my time rather than money this year,

It's boring and tedious. Luckily I don't have to have anything to do with it.

TrillianAstra · 19/11/2010 19:03

As somene said, there are millions of channels, plus I have a computer and iplayer and DVDs so if I want to watch TV I can.

mentalcat · 19/11/2010 19:05

Looks like Cherly forgot her skirt/trousers again

BecauseImWorthIt · 19/11/2010 19:13

So all those of you who don't like it - what other ways would you suggest to raise £39million in one evening?

If you don't like it, turn over/go out/ignore it. It doesn't really matter if it's good TV, it's about people raising money for a worthy cause. And the BBC treats the celebs well because they are actually giving up their time for free.

JulesJules · 19/11/2010 19:14

Well that Zombie thing is on tonight, isn't it? Might just polish up the Zombie plan and open a bottle of wine Grin

WilfShelf · 19/11/2010 19:16

I marginally prefer Comic Relief night (which some of the posts on this thread are actually talking about). It is pretty mawkish still but I prefer my charity with a bit of politics.

It's the 'In need' being unquestioned about charity full stop that I resent. Why do people have to give to charity to assuage their personal consciences? Why can't they just pay more tax so people don't have to be 'in need'?

I do give, because I have a moral sense that I should, being not 'in need'. But I'd far rather pay more taxes, meself.

It's all so American...
