Am I the only one who dreads children in need night? I cant stand it, what a waste of tv time. And it goes on so long! I hate that stupid bear

YABU.

You would HATE me. I am sitting here wearing a top that I bought in asda with Pudsey on it (tbh I don't know what I was thinking) and DS is wearing one too Bear Hmm Confused

However, it is for a good cause.

PuppyMonkey · 19/11/2010 13:44

I don't like the telly prog, but I do like the fact that Rolf Harris has been on Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 for the last hour.

soapydishcloth · 19/11/2010 13:44

Who is it who thinks anyone wants to watch newsreaders in fishnets doing a song and dance routine? Also, Wogan gets on my nerves now.

I'll watch I'm a Sleb instead as I'm starting to like Shaun Ryder, a thing I thought would never happen.

Ormirian · 19/11/2010 13:44

BTW I donate via DD to about 12 charities a month so I don't have a problem with giving to charity - just this particular method of drumming up cash.

Nancy66 · 19/11/2010 13:48

Children in Need in a nutshell:

Fiona Bruce dressing up as Abba
Emily Matlis flashing her gusset
Celeb Strictly Come Dancing
Celeb Cookery type thing

Shit local presenters milking their five minutes.

Fat ugly people holding up giant cheques in the audience

Gaby Roslin fawning all over everyone

Various moronic members of public sitting in custard and leapfrogging over post boxes in their pants.

ChippingIn · 19/11/2010 13:52

Fat ugly people holding up giant cheques in the audience

Nice.

Hmm
ChippingIn · 19/11/2010 13:53

In case you don't get why it's offensive - substitute fat for black/gay/muslim/disabled and see how it appears.

NordicPrincess · 19/11/2010 13:55

i think that was a bit off...whats wrong with fat people? or ugly people?

i would have imagined that front rows would have been celebs anyway...unless they were lucky enough to get out of it too lol!

YANBU, I hate it too. Won't be donating as I am broke!

wannaBe · 19/11/2010 15:02

oh chipping I do agree with you.

I find it funny that people are more open to donating a virtual goat to a foreign country where corruption is usually rife and the chances of more than about 5% of your donation actually going to the cause concerned than donating to people on our own doorsteps. Hmm

personally I do give to children in need every year but find the giving of goats as christmas presents smug and twattish and would be pretty hacked off if I received one...

Remotew · 19/11/2010 15:04

Tell I lie, DD asked me for 50p this morning as she has gone into school in her pj's. She has her own money at 16 so I donated by stealth!

Rockbird · 19/11/2010 15:09

I detest it as well, don't mind giving the money but please save me from having to watch the show. It's even infiltrated DD's nursery. Last week, she wore her fairy dress to nursery. This week she wore her fairy dress to nursery...and paid £1 for the privilege. I also made cakes for a cake sale that they didn't seem to have. What's that about? I realise the goings on at the nursery have little to do with CIN but allow me a small rant.

ShadeofViolet · 19/11/2010 15:21

Dont be so miserable! Its one night and its for a good cause.

sausagelover - Im wearing my Pudsey shirt too :)

nagynolonger · 19/11/2010 15:24

The TV is crap but you don't have to watch it. Watch a DVD or put the radio on instead.

Primary school used to go over the top with CIN, red nose day, etc.. They always wanted money for something.

It is much better at secondary. Just a £ for non uniform. If there are cakes and other stuff they either use their own money or go without.

As a family we donate to local childrens charities. I much prefer it when the schools do this too.

lilyliz · 19/11/2010 15:40

it's rubbish and Terry Wobegone taking payment for fronting it stank.

domesticsluttery · 19/11/2010 15:49

I think the TV show is rubbish, but I quite enjoy the fundraising.

My nursery class had a dress up in spots day and a cake stall (we made pudsey biscuits and spotty cakes in pudsey cake cases). We raised £95, which isn't bad for a class of 19 children!

My DC went to school in fancy dress too.

I am quite happy to give to CiN as we receive from it too, we have had several grants from them to buy equipment for the children in our village.

Just please don't make me watch it on TV!

Riven - you wouldn't like it if they excluded her either though would you? Tricky in a mainstream situation.

DD was most upset when she found out I am going out tonight with some old friends. She likes nothing more than an evening of crap telly with her mum and dad. I used to enjoy it, but it is wearing a bit thin now. It amused me when a bunch of celebs climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise loads of money, then Gary Barlow (ws it he?) paid for a private plane to fly them home as they were all so tired.Bear

notheroldie · 19/11/2010 16:08

I too loathe it. Like comic relief the funny bits are funny and the newsreaders dressed up doing sill y dance routines, or singing in a choir are dreadful.

I also hate the way the celebs (often blinkin loaded) say please give money blah...blah..blah... and you know full well their wages ( ie footballers etc) are monumental.
I seem to recall David Beckham on one of these shows, David flippin Beckham, he could bloody buy Africa.

notheroldie · 19/11/2010 16:08

I meant aren't funny oops

cece · 19/11/2010 16:11

can i make a donation to ask for them not to show it on tv and we can just go back to normal tv schedule. Actually i am going out tonight which is a lucky coincidence !

curlymama · 19/11/2010 16:13

I hate it too. For more reasons than I can be bothered to write out.

But I love that MN is the only place that I seem to be able to voice that opinion without being seen as tight.

ladyfirenze · 19/11/2010 16:14

I haven't watched it since they showed a poor woman on the way to hospital with her baby, and then the baby died in her arms. I'll never forget the sound of her distress.

shock tactics like this are shit imo. Then we're s'posed to be able to laugh our arses off at the nine o'clock news people dancing a stupid jig two minutes later... chuh!
