To abort my unborn baby if you tell me to?

thereistheball · 18/11/2010 17:22

Not me! This couple. They are Pete and Alisha Arnold, and she is 17 weeks pregnant. They can't decide whether or not to keep the baby so are putting it to the vote, which closes two days before she reaches 20 weeks.

Some of the site content is down, but they appear to be genuine. I heard about this from Gawker.com Sorry if this has been done before - if so I haven't seen it and am Shock Shock Shock and Sad

I like this comment on the gawker site

"Dear Arnolds,

This will not go the way you have planned. You are quite clearly anti-choice trolls that are trying to prove a point.

However, when the polls close, and they clearly point towards abortion (and they will, because, I mean, come on, have you ever BEEN on the internet before?), you will then exercise your CHOICE to override the poll and say "But despite what has been voted, it's up to us what happens to our pregnancy!" Which you think will be a miraclous demonstration of how much you affirm life, and the fact that this fetus is already a baby to you.

But "despite what has been voted, it's up to [me] what happens to [my] pregnancy!" is exactly like what pro-choice advocates have been sayin for years.

So thanks for proving our point. "

MoralDefective · 18/11/2010 20:54

Far too late to start considering abortion.
Vile people.

CocoPopsAddict · 18/11/2010 20:58

Hmmm. So they had two pregnancies, both planned, which ended in miscarriage, and all the heartbreak that entails. And for no reason at all, they are asking people to vote on whether they keep this baby. Yeah right - can't believe anyone would actually believe them.

frgr · 18/11/2010 20:58

Kaloki, I like that comment too. :)

fairycake123 · 18/11/2010 21:06

They should abort.

Shallishanti · 18/11/2010 21:07

yup, I like that comment- I aggree it's a 'pro life' (=anti choice) stunt
but what I think is interesting, and I've thought this before when faced with their propaganda, is that it suggests how shallow and thoughtless anti choice stuff is, how little they seem to care about the feelings of real people, and how casual they are about the idea of being a parent, for all they claim to value 'life'

MollysChambers · 18/11/2010 21:08

This cannot be "real" surely?

Very very wrong.

ClaireDeLoon · 18/11/2010 21:12

Sorry but to the many of us on here who have suffered one mc, let alone two as this couple claim, this is a really vile thing to do as a publicity stunt. Similarly those who have tried and tried and not conceived (I'm very sorry Broody :( ) - how hurtful to read of people who claim to be so callous they let the internet decide about something you desire so much.

It is so incredibly offensive they are doing this, whatever their motives.

Fuck them. Twats.

CheerfulYank · 18/11/2010 21:13

Oh Lord and they're from Apple Valley too.

Shelly32 · 18/11/2010 21:13

There are so many people out there who are desperate for children. It makes me feel sick that these people would turn their so called 'dilemma' into a media stunt.

thereistheball · 18/11/2010 21:14

Shallishanti - agreed. Also, if it is a stunt, it frames the question of pro-life or pro-choice very badly. Pro-choice people are not necessarily going to vote for an abortion - I know few who would, though these circumstances stretch us quite thin. I think what this couple is doing, to the child and to the debate, is hateful.

Is there any chance that this site (not looked, btw, just read the comments here) is one of those things that students do when they're given the assignment of 'create something to go viral and get as many hits as possible' ?

There have been several in the past that have been very successful. The cat in a jar is one that springs to mind.

PinkieMinx · 18/11/2010 21:17

Shame we can't abort them. utterly shocked - sickest thing I've heard.

SparklingExplosionGoldBrass · 18/11/2010 21:21

As said above, it just shows what sort of people most pro-lifers are. They don't actually like living people, they are obsessed with foetuses and their 'rights'.

SparklingExplosionGoldBrass · 18/11/2010 21:23

Mind you, 4-Chan are on the case, so the whole thing is now going to turn into an entertaining Battle of Witlessness.

Errmmmm · 18/11/2010 21:26

If I remember correctly, most of the student viral 'most hits' sites were along the lines of a public vote, using the most contentious issues they dared to use.

There was a bunny who was going to get the chop once, too.

thereistheball · 18/11/2010 21:38

Errmmmm - It's possible. Why don't you take a look and see what you think? Gawker.com have been around for a while so I trusted their article which quoted the couple directly. But of course it could all be a wind-up. That would be preferable to it all being true.

HalfTermHero · 18/11/2010 22:01

I would say it is a pro life stunt. They most likely hope to stir up revulsion towards late abortions made for thoughtless/reckless reasons. Obviously a totally sick and pathetic stunt. Lets hope that the US version of social services get healily involved with this couple when they announce they are continuing the pregnancy. Surely the authorities will have to question the mental health of this couple and investigate the welfare etc of a baby born to them.

halftermhero I hope that if they do go ahead (which they will) the child is taken somewhere safe, far far away.

HalfTermHero · 18/11/2010 22:26

Their stunt may well backfire I suspect.....

NonnoMum · 18/11/2010 22:29

Definitely a prank/assignment(?)/propoganda.

Do not click. Do not vote. Do not give them any more internet time.

And call social services.

justsue · 18/11/2010 22:35

i was not even going to give this the time of day but all I can say is there are so many women out there my sil included that are paying thousands of pounds trying for a baby and willing to risk their homes for it and then you get this stupid fucking pair of wasters posting on stupid fucking websites

WTF is the world coming to

HalfTermHero · 18/11/2010 22:35

Agree with the do not click. I did not click either. Why send traffic to the shits that they are?

ISNT · 18/11/2010 22:38
