As 'mummy' when talking in reference to our kids?!o be annoyed at DH for constantly referring to the MIL...A

Example - photographing DD "mummy will love it if we send her this", one of many!

He certainly doesn't call her mummy in real life, but has a nasty habit of doing in ref to kids when he means granny, she of course would love this, it grated me something bad, if I pull him up on it he thinks pm being fact, surely he knows I'm mummy now, not tge daft old bat! He is a man of course, so he could just be being thick

Do any of your partners do this too?

Eh indeed! In plain English, he accidently, I think, calls his mother mummy when talking to the babies!

He is just being thick ignore him.

He's being thick, but unless you pull him up on it every time, he will continue to do it, and it will continue to annoy you.

Just correct him every time he does it. Something like "I think you mean granny." should do it.

Things like this don't usually pee me off, but this last occurence of it has got my goat, grown men should not call their mums mummy! Bat or no bat!

I would REALLY hate that. If my DH refered to my MIL as "mummy" to my DD then I would have a fit. Even if he said "my mummy will like this" etc, I would find it weird but definitely not just calling her mummy.

Have you told him how weird it is?

Ew Yuk That's just wrong. He will confuse the kids. Who does he refer to you as?

Surely he should refer to mil as nanny/gran in front of children

It's probably be by accident. I still occasionally refer to my Dad as 'daddy' when talking to 8mo DD. In fact he does the same (he's more used to being a Dad than a Grandpa). But we correct ourselves straightaway.

I'm mummy too, hes like a kid with her, she often refers to herself as mummy, and I think he has been brain washed! I will continue to pick him up on it. I said to him that I don't say to dd "lets send daddy some photos" when talking about my dad, he is grandad!

I think its done in error as I genuinely think a lot of the time men don't think or listen come to that

Oh I would hate it too....every time he does it, say "GRANNY NOT MUMMY" it will become less of a habit.

Well, you could always be really mean and say

"I am really concerned about you. You seem to have a fixation with your mother as the mother of your children. Do you think this is something that you need help with? It is rather Oedipal..."

Oh I seeeeeee. Isn't it confusing for the children? If I tell DD we're going to see daddy then she'd think I meant DH. Even though I'm one of those despicable adults who still calls their parents mummy and daddy, my father is granddad to DD etc.

I'm going to throw oedipus at him next time, perhaps that might shut him up!

I´d have to correct him, for the sake of my sanity.

I mean it´s not that hard to distinguish between your wife & mother is it?

Does he do it so often that it´s probably not accidental?
