Ok, so I'm now getting really pissed off with family members, including DH dissing my baby name suggestions and making crap ones I'm supposed to like i.e - Brian, Keith, Carly anyone? FFS What is wrong with people, obviously I have to let DH have a say (or so I'm told) but I think its bloody rude of my normally lovely MIL, my Dad and friends dissing my choices and being rude about them AIBU? Just for the record I like old fashioned names

Never, ever, ever discuss baby names before the baby is born with anyone other than your DH.

You are just inviting trouble if you do.

NEVER discuss baby names with anyone. People will always ask and you should always say "Yes, but we haven't decided on anything yet."

That's why I don't discuss names til after the baby is born and we have decided on a name. Its harder for people to criticise once you've named the baby.

I made the mistake of talking (in excitement) about names loads last time. The result "Oh. That's shite nice. But what about

Speaking of which, I'll see your Carly, Brian and Keef and raise you a Glenda Pamela and Geoffery. (All family names on DP's side, all well and truly vetoed!)

Worse though was when inlaws came to see baby and we proudly showed off DD's birth certificate as she had been registered the day before. "Oh. So it's to late to change your mind then?" and and at anyone being so fecking rude!

Just tell them it took 2 people to make this baby, so it only takes 2 people to name it. You and DH get a 50/50 say...no-one else does.

Or just make up two decoy names, the more daft the better. And relate this information with your most serious, dead-pan face.

Or tell them all that you have decided to call the baby Aloysius-Tyrone and that you don't wish to discuss it any further.

It'll piss them off no end. :o

My brother told everyone his DS was going to be named Crocodile Hitler [Surname] until they'd decided what to actually call him. Shut everyone up.

Well my DS suggestions of ShowerHead or Cushelle are looking more and more favourable, that would certainly shut them all up!

I just made up names and gave them a list. Saying we hadn't quite decided but it might be Niamh, Clodagh etc.So people had things to comment on but the real name wasn't there! The only time I did it with the real name in there bizarrely, my workmates said it was the best one.
Apart from my mam and dad who I told excitedly and they didn't like it.

Remember OP - YOU know best what name suits your baby. Your folks don't have a say.

My parents were too vocal about what they didn't like - anyhow it turns out my kids seem to like their names OK.

My GM chose my name - and I don't like it at all. Always use my middle name.
