To think that I can cook what the hell I want?!

Firstly afternoon ladies Smile

I've just popped out to put some clothes in the tumble dryer (it's outside in our shed) and my next door neighbour (who was in her garden clearing her path) said "something smells good" I replied "Oh thanks, that's my lasagne cooking for tea" she replied "really? but it's Sunday"

Some people are set in their ways especially when it comes to a Sunday roast.

Just smile politely and say yes, we didnt fancy a roast today.

of course you can, she didn't say you couldn't did she?

i guess some poeple are just very used to having sunday roast.

she was surprised, doesn't mean she was saying "omg you can't do that" does it

Oh no bless her my neighbour is lovely, she just seemed very shocked and surprised that i was cooking lasagne on a sunday.

Come on not everyone has a roast on a sunday do they? we had ours on wednesday.:)

Oh don't! I feel your pain.

Sundays are often my cook, washing and clean the house day. So I get all sweaty, smelly from cooking.

Often I don't bother getting out of the PJs, just bung em in the wash when I'm finished and get a shower myself.

Avon lady comes round to collect the catalogue. Twice she has made a comment and I felt like I had to justify myself.

Surely on a Sunday I can do what the hell I want to in my home?

Now I leave the catalogue outside and do what I want.

Why IS it everyone feels they have the right to say anything and everything that comes into their empty little heads?

You can have a roast any day doesn't have to be Sunday we often have something simple on a Sunday as it's my lazy day.

I think older people, particularly, feel that because it's Sunday, it should be a roast dinner.

I couldn't stand to live like that, personally!

Some people like routine and are shocked that others don't. Other people prefer to ring the changes - neither are wrong! And tbh it doesn't sound like she was criticising, just that for her, Sundays = roast dinner so she assumed it would for others too.

LittleMissHissyFit - that is quite often my Sunday, especially as DP works 3 out of 4 weekends, I am dressed today though as 2 of the DC are not here today and getting the housework done was a lot easier. I do still have my dressing gown on though!! Grin

Actually in some parts of Leicestershire the local bye-laws stipulate that failure to feed your husband roasted meat on a Sunday is grounds for divorce. Maybe she feared for the state of your marriage?

Chil1234 - I have to do laundry everyday! there are 5 of us and if I don't do at least 2 loads a day it piles high.

Bell - Oh no she wasn't criticising, she just really seemed very perplexed. She almost had me justifying to her why we weren't having a roast and not that she had actually quizzed me on it, she just made me feel like I needed to defend my gorgeous lasagne!

I would far rather have lasagne than a roast dinner tbh!

Riven - do you do a veggie version of Christmas dinner? I usually do a huge pan of roasted vege, some dauphinoisse etc but don't bother replacing the turkey.

Awww - if you were a bit nearer I'd say send them round to me and I'd feed them! It amazes me how much teenagers manage to shove into their bellies and my two never get any fatter!

I do love a roast dinner, but we had ours on Wednesday and there is no way we can afford to have a roast twice a week! Have you seen the price of a joint of meat?

Riven - catbumfaces Grin that is so funny, i'm going to use that one on my DD (13) when she gets a mood on Grin

OH NO Xmas has got to be a roast (as long as I'm not cooking) We always go to my mums! If i had to cook we could end up with pizza and chips. Xmas is hectic enough without having to cook as roast as well.

sundays in my home are for cleaning the bathroom, sushi and cold beer. anyone who deviates from this routine will be promptly shot!

I have cooked lasagne for Xmas dinner before, which provoked huge scorn from MIL when she heard (not that she was invited)
I tend to do a roast chicken during the week, and a casserole on Sunday.

My mum and dad always have a roast on a Sunday.

I'm doing Christmas this year and would love to do a middle eastern feast, as I love that sort of food (and am a bit 'meh' about roasts), but I think my dad would actually implode.

My FIL is very picky about his food and set in his ways....

Sunday is full roast dinner, Mondays is mince and potatoes, Tues is gammon steak and chips, Wed is stew etc etc.

I could not eat the same thing every single week, ugh.

We always have a roast on Sundays, but only because it's the only day that I have time to do it properly Sad
