In thinking the media should start naming and shaming bullies ?

A few weeks ago, a ten year old boy living 5 miles away from me hung himself, he had been badly bullied for years and obviously couldn't face school on the monday.

His family are so traumatised they have had to move away

On Friday, a 13 yr old boy who lives very near to me, hung himself. Again he'd been bullied for years. We know his uncle, he was from a close, loving family who did all they could to stop what was happening to him.

If liasing with the school/police dosen't work, maybe humiliation is the way to go ?

Fuck it, i'm angry. I hope the little shits are tortured by what they did for the rest of their lives.

:( That's so sad. And I agree really. Bullies should know the damage they cause, and other people should know they have too.

No you are not something needs to happen that is terrible so sad.

It's only going to get worse.

3 secondary schools have been closed and replaced with an academy, the only other schools are one on an island- already bursting at the seams.

A catholic school in a very affluent area, it's also over subscribed.

And an extremely over subscribed school a few miles up the road, virtually impossible to get into unless you've lived in the area for years, it's one of the best schools in the country, has a zero tolerence policy towards bullying and the kids are lovely and polite.

So the poor kids at the academy have nowhere to go really, even if their lives are being made hell.

Really sorry to hear about that OP, but I still can't agree with you.

If the media start a policy of naming and shaming bullies then a lot of innocent, wrongly identified children are going to get hurt. And a lot of not remotely innocent, but possibly damaged and vulnerable children are going to get even more hurt than they are already.

Not that the media is going to: in various supposedly thoroughly investigated articles on paedophiles, the tabloids managed to either picture or name completely the wrong people and get themselves sued. They ruined the lives of some of the men they wrongly identified.

Bullying is terrible, but bringing back the public stocks in a more modern guise is not the answer, in my view.

Often- not always- children who bully are replicating behaviour they have experienced themselves. A bully tends not to be a well-balanced, happy child.

As adults, we have a responsibility not to act towards children out of spite and revenge. What does naming and shaming bullying children tell them about the adult world, other than bullying and aggression is acceptable there too?

I don't think naming them would help tbh it would just make people more sympathetic to them.
but I think they shouldn't be seen as victims and should face some kind of punishment.
maybe they could apologise to the victims family,. so they can see the damage they have done

Who should do the naming? What happens if they're wrong?

I don't think an apology would replace being able to kiss your child at bedtime tbh.

Hercales, there was an incident recently at the academy, 15 girls piled on to one and battered the hell out of her, I don't believe all 15 of those girls have hellish homelives .

It was filmed on mobiles and caught on cctv and the girls were clearly identified. it appeared in the paper but of course the girls weren't identified, imo they should have been shown for the nasty creatures they are.

of course it wouldn't, but hopefully it would make the bully feel terrible.

I don't think naming would help to be honest.

There was a similar incident here last year, a filmed attack on a young girl. I think they should have been named but the local papers protected their identities. Luckily it didn't result in the girl commiting suicide, but I don't think she got the support she deserved.

Good point 2shoes. 'Restorative justice' schemes are around and apparently get very good results. Having to stand in a room and face the parents of the child who committed suicide is far more likely to change bullies' thinking than a newspaper campaign.

Bear in mind there are laws about when children can be named as either victims, witnesses or perpetrators so it isn't just a case of newspapers deciding to name them or not.
