and i am ONLY 30 FFS Angry

never noticed before but i was looking around while waiting for DS (4) to come out and I am definitely the oldest and by quite a bit as well i think.

dammit they all look so young and trendy, they must think i am a right frumpy old thing :( some of them have got 1 or 2 younger ones with them as well.

and no, before anyone suggests it, they are not nannies. no one in my area could afford one :o

oh it's a funny one this.

I had DS1 quite young (20) so was one of the youngest in the playground when he started school.

I'm 31 now and feel ancient compared to many of the mum's at DS3's nursery.

MaMoTTaT · 10/11/2010 19:33

My best friend is 43, her youngest DD is in YR2, and she's just become a grandmother for the 3rd time! (her oldest 3 children are early 20's and 19)

otchayaniye · 10/11/2010 19:35

come to east dulwich. All the mothers are in their forties (or look it)

badfairy · 10/11/2010 19:36

Jeez that makes me feel positively geratric. I'm 42 with a 5 year old and a 22 month old !

badfairy · 10/11/2010 19:37

"geriatric" even .....see told you I was old Wink

Lynli · 10/11/2010 19:42

I had DS at 39 the oldest Mum had her DS at 46.

You are just a baby.

thecatatemygymsuit · 10/11/2010 19:44

Otchay I am nearish to you and was also going to say that at my dd's nursery everyone seems to be late 30's/early 40's (like me!).
There is one mum of 30 who is universally known as 'the young mum'!

Ray81 · 10/11/2010 19:59

I want to look like you Envy i am 29 and do not look as young as you do.

otchayaniye · 10/11/2010 20:06

Well, I skirt nunhead (I don't actually like east dulwich, too chi chi for me)

thecatatemygymsuit · 10/11/2010 20:09

Ah, well I'm keeping it real in Peckham so I know what you mean (but do like the ED shops I must admit).

asdx2 · 10/11/2010 22:32

Had a sobering experience tonight. Ds2 (21) went to pick dd2(7) up from after school club and the leader asked if he was her Daddy HmmCan imagine she will be trying to tot up just how old I am Blush.I was a young mum to ds and an older one to dd Grin

iamamug · 10/11/2010 22:45

I am 47 - DS is in Y4 - and I'm not the oldest!

drfayray · 10/11/2010 23:05

Oh my, in our school, most of the parents look like the grandparents! When DD was in grade 1 (now in grade 7) one mum was really young (had her DD when she was 19) and was the odd one out. The rest of us were in our mid 30s to 40s. This is a school set in a university suburb though (and half of the mums in DD's grade 1 class had PhDs or were doing them). I guess most of us just had our children later.

SE13Mummy · 10/11/2010 23:39

I had DD1 at 27 only to be told by one of the Y5 children in my class, "27!!! You're having a baby and you're 27. That's old. My mum's 27 and I'm 10".

What's the correct response to that? I believe I went with something along the lines of, "I hadn't realised your mum was 27 too".

I think I prefer my current class. In spite of knowing I have two children they still claim to believe I am 25.

tryingtoleave · 11/11/2010 06:19

I am 32 with a 4 y o ds and I think I am the youngest by about 5 years at the preschool.

deepbluewave · 11/11/2010 07:58

I was gonna do a post on what people think of young mammas- Im 30, (im really not blowing my trumphet) but I keep getting told I look either 20 or 17.

So when I make it the school gates or next year, when I am pushing a pram, Im sure folk are gonna look their noses down at me and all the older mama's will snuff me!

ForMashGetSmash · 11/11/2010 08:04

I am the blinking second youngest at 38! Can you believe that? The youngest is 33 and the oldest is 49...all the others waited till they were established finacially....it's that kind of area.My sister is the oldest in her chool at 44....her kids are 7. Theother Mums are all in their 20s.

gorionine · 11/11/2010 08:07

Do not worry, all the other mums probably think you are someone's grandma, not an older motherWink.

Ineedsomesleep · 11/11/2010 08:11

I'm not the oldest, was 40 when DS started Reception Class at 4.5 but my boss was the oldest Mum at her school by a mile and she was only 28!

Yeah, think she was pretty shocked too Smile

Longstocking2 · 12/11/2010 09:37

jesus, try being 45! And I've got a two year old!

gegs73 · 12/11/2010 09:46

I'm 36, with a 6yo son in year 2 and one in nursery. I would say that I am amongst the youngest mums in DS1 class and about average for the mums in DS2 nursery. 30 is young! Must be where you live. DS1 has a friend in his class whose Mum is 50 and thats not unusual.

BarbieLovesKen · 12/11/2010 09:53

You see Im shocked as I was thinking the exact reverse. Im 25 and am minimum 10-15 years younger than any other parent at our school gates, from my detective work it appears that the closest to my age is 38 Shock.

You'd imagine there would be at least one or two more in their 20's.
