and i am ONLY 30 FFS Angry

never noticed before but i was looking around while waiting for DS (4) to come out and I am definitely the oldest and by quite a bit as well i think.

dammit they all look so young and trendy, they must think i am a right frumpy old thing :( some of them have got 1 or 2 younger ones with them as well.

and no, before anyone suggests it, they are not nannies. no one in my area could afford one :o

Please tell me that the picture that says 'me and DP' was taken when you were 16, and you are one of the older-man-younger-women romances that turned out for the good?! You look like bloody Avril Lavigne...

TrillianAstra · 10/11/2010 17:22

*woman

Not suggesting there are multiple women in your relationship.

duchesse · 10/11/2010 17:25

I'll be 46 when I start the school run with DD3. Thankfully I don't live in an area where I'll stand out like a sore thumb; although I am a fair bit older than most other mothers about, there aren't that many young mums who look young iyswim, and I look younger than I am (hoping it lasts!).

umf · 10/11/2010 17:35

What??? Where do you live? I'm 30 and 10 years younger than everyone else. At preschool I keep having these embarrassing whispered arguments with DS about whether friends are being picked up by grandmother (his view) or mother (mine).

Ragwort · 10/11/2010 17:38

At 53 I am totally used to being called DS's grandma Grin - my DH was asked 'is this your first grandchild' when I was giving birth.

Rindercella · 10/11/2010 17:41

Blimey!

OP, firstly you look 19 in the photo on your profile (that's a compliment Wink)

Secondly, I am 40 and DD1 hasn't even started school yet!

bandgeek · 10/11/2010 17:43

I think I am one of the youngest on the school run at DS's school (I'm 27). I had thought there would've been younger than me though. There's a mixture of people in their 20's 30's and 40's.

My DH (40s) hadn't realised how much older we are than many of the other school parents until he volunteered to run in the dads race at sportsday. He looked along the starting line and it was all fellas in their early 20s in sportsgear/trainers.

goingroundthebend4 · 10/11/2010 17:49

Most the mums are older than me at dd class door she's year 3 I'm 37 but best laugh is when they try give me advice as there dc are older y4-y6 .new school so had to laugh and said ty then happened to mention that had 2 older dc 17 and 14 did want to ask them to pick their jaws up could see them doing the maths

Was not as young as some was 20 and 23 but you could see their lips purse up and them hooking their knickers. Up to there mouth even more when quite happily admitted to being a single parent (dud not feel need tell them I had been married and both working when had dc)

Oblomov · 10/11/2010 17:50

Agree with unquiet dad. I am 37 , yr 2. Most mums are mid to late 30's. quite a few early 40's. A few in their 20's. No one diss'es the older mums or younger mums. EVER.

LivinInThe80s · 10/11/2010 17:50

OP, you look stunning in your photos - if you're the frumpiest at your school I'm glad my DCs don't go there Grin. Most of the mums at my DCs school are 35-40ish I'd say, and one of DS1's friends' Mum has just had another baby at 44 so you've got a while to go yet !!

ChippingIn · 10/11/2010 17:51

I know - she's slim, young looking, pretty, trendy - wtf are the others like??

It really does depend where you live, what the average age at the school gate is!

superv1xen · 10/11/2010 17:51

haha trillian he is ten years older but we didnt get together till i was 27 :o pic was taken a year ago. we are getting married soon so i guess it is one of those older men / younger woman relationships that has worked, seems to have so far anyway :o he would hate to hear it described as that, teehee (he is self conscious that he is so much older bless him :o )

BTW i dont think 30 is old at all, just that i was older compared to all the young mums at school :o

v1xen, I agree yiu look lovely. And very young. God I never looked thta young when I was 30. Celebrate it. Lucky you. You have fab genes. Bet you have fab jeans aswell !!

AllOverIt · 10/11/2010 17:55

A lady in my post-natal group had her DD at 47... I was the youngest at 29 when I had DS.

TrillianAstra · 10/11/2010 17:58

10 years age difference when you are 27 doesn't really count - I meant that you looked about 17 and he looked more like 30-something! Grin

Did you just post about being old so we would look at your pics and say how young you look? Hmm Grin

superv1xen · 10/11/2010 18:00

gah!...busted Blush

I live in a pretentious effluent dual-income part of north london and I was the second youngest in my NCT group when having my first at 34.

I am from a council estate in the sticks though, where there are plenty of grannies my age. Grin In fact I'm considered quite the geriatric prima gravida down that way. My Mum once told someone there that she had a baby at 39 and apparently they looked shocked and didn't believe her.

Mermaidspam · 10/11/2010 18:09

How weird, I'm 30 and I'm the youngest mum in DD's class! Hurrah for me!

kerstina · 10/11/2010 19:14

How can you tell they are all younger they might just look younger like yourself ? Unless you have gone round checking all their ages ...

snowflake69 · 10/11/2010 19:23

Thats the same as here. I know one mum who is 47 and has a 6 year old and everyone is usually really shocked by it. I think she is the only mum who had a baby at 40+ I have ever met. She says herself she has never really met any mums as old as her with such a young child either. Its unheard of in my RL experiences and I have only ever heard of it happening on here or on TV.

MollieO · 10/11/2010 19:27

Ds had a friend at nursery whose grandma was younger than me!

runmeragged · 10/11/2010 19:31

the youngest mum in DS's reception class is 30, the oldest is 45!
