to take a baby with a sniffle swimming?

aibu to take 6 month old baby with a sniffle to his weekly swimming class?

He's got a cold - no temperature afaict.

We stayed in all day today and wondering whether I should take him swimming or to doctor tomorrow.

Any useful advice?

I think you'd regret it if you did take him - so many healthy tiny ones end up with sniffles after swimming; take one who's already below par and he's likely to be much worse, especially at this time of year.

I actually think swimming pools are disgusting places at the best of times, and in hindsight don't know why I ever bothered taking the DCs before they could even walk.

Such hard work and so stressful - or is that just me?

I don't think I would take him; I can't imagine it will do him any good if he's got the sniffles. I'd keep him home where it's nice and warm.

He will be fine if it's just a sniffle. If you don't take him when he has a sniffle, you will never go.

WWWY - I like taking them when they are little, it's a lovely bonding time in the water - but I guess some classes/pools are different.

I've never taken mine swimming yet because just thinking about it brings me out in a cold sweat! Way too stressful!

It's not stressful!! It's nice. It's even easier before they are walking!

Have you tried wiping a snotty nose while in a swimming pool? Doesn't work.

Just a sniffle not temp and seems fine in himself - go.
Like ChippingIn says you'd never go if you didn't go everytime your baby had a sniffle.
I did find that nothing cleared my DD's nose quite so well as swimming.

He usually really enjoys the classes. He has a lovely nap after them too. The small pool is extra hot for the baby classes and the air around it is very warm.

I wouldn't not go swimming if I had a cold if I could stay warm and get properly dry. I'm just not sure if there are extra risks for babies?

Just make sure he doesn't have an earache too, check to see if it's red inside or hot to touch- getting water in when an ear infection is brewing can be really painful.

TNMD - a little bit of nose dribble in a swimming pool is the least of your problems in a public pool! A bit of a pinch/squeeze with your thumb & finger - job done. Or if you are feeling very 'nice' a cloth hankie in the top of your swimsuit.

No - no added risks and the bonus is their hair dries quickly with a towel rub! Just remember to take a hat with you! It will be nice, help him clear his nasal tubes and he'll get a nice sleep after - if he doesn't seem any worse tomorrow - just go.

There's nothing better than a warm, humid atmosphere for nasal congestion. Those baby swimming pools are usually kept pretty hot and steamy. As long as you dry him off and wrap him up well before coming out into the cold & damp afterwards I can't see that he would suffer. In fact, I think colds are worse when you're stuck in a dry, centrally-heated house...

I'd take him so long as he doesn't have a temperature. They always have sniffles in winter!

I take mine every other day and have done since four week -- but I live in a building with a swimming pool.

Can't see it would hurt, you're going to dry and dress him or her, aren't you?

I love taking DD swimming, we go every week and she loves it, splashes away for the full hour.
She's 8mo and if she just had a snotty nose, I'd def take her. Nice warm pool in nice warm building is better for her than a cold walk outside or a trudge round the shops.

Nothing nicer than swimming in a snot-filled pool .
