Ok so my son is going to the cinema party. The mum who took them ( small group) got the time wrong and missed their film by an hour.
So she decides to give them lunch while they kill time to wait for the next one.
Fair enough.
But then i get a text " hi hun, sorry missed time for film r w8ting 4 nxt 1. Lunch @maccyDs. ok?"

For GODS sake, if I wanted my kid to eat there ( as if) I'd take him. He knows we dont eat there or at similar places.
I am livid but what could I say?

Advice please on how to deal with this

"most people in most countries in Africa are starving"

Er... right Hmm

dearprudence · 07/11/2010 15:57

Thanks MNHQ for not deleting. I am now thoroughly taken in by this story, having been convinced it was a joke.

And just in case you are real, OP - YABU.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 07/11/2010 16:08

God I would kill for a McDonald's quarterpounder with cheese right now.
And a thick strawberry milkshake.

Fibilou · 07/11/2010 16:25

OP, a salutory tale for you:

My mother hated McDonalds (the junk, the ethos, the whole thing) and I was never allowed to eat it apart from at the occasional birthday party. When I left home I ate pretty much nothing BUT McDonalds for quite some time as it was so exciting being let off the leash. I put on about 3 stone.

If you are so prescriptive with your child's diet now you may well be saving up these sorts of problems for the future

I don't like McDonalds now but I certainly won't be "banning" it from DD's diet. All things in moderation and all that...

scoobytoo · 07/11/2010 16:33

I would never eat there and haven't for 20 odd years nor has my DD BUT it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. Be careful based on my experience extreme food views can lead to a child with food issues.

SO funny! Do we still not know for sure who the author really is?

Heartsease · 07/11/2010 16:53

Er, Lee2010, I have been to Africa plenty thanks. Not that it's relevant, as Riven has eloquently established.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 07/11/2010 17:14

Yeah I'd give the fries a missed as they are yuck.

OP is a looooooooon with ishoos, and she will pass them on to her son. Poor kid :(

Heartsease · 07/11/2010 17:16

Though actually, if he kept the MaccyD's down she has passed on her ishoos about it less effectively than my own mum did. The one time I tried it at a friend's party I instinctively vommed it up everywhere. She was v proud.

Lee2010 · 07/11/2010 18:47

Look all please read: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famine#Famine_in_Africa so Africa isnt a poor starving region full of LEDCs? Is the entire world view of the region of africa wrong?

MrsVidic · 07/11/2010 19:11

OMG he will now bleed ketchup for the rest of his life, still keeps him safe from vampires! Oh you have made me chuckle! (I nearly spat out my big mac and strawberry milk shake all over my iphone)

almondfinger · 07/11/2010 19:27

I get a craving for McD's from time to time (about twice a year) and tuck into a big mac meal. Take the babies along too and get them some chips and nuggets (filthy things and they wont touch them) but I reckon it's worse to deny them and have them gorge on the sh*%e in later years - everything in moderation.

However, now that I know that the chips have 27 ingredients including an anti-foaming agent and they have patented the term 100% beef or however they refer to their patties, so they essentially make if from reconstructed soy protein - veggies, knock yourselves out, there's hardly a scrap of real beef in them.

Anyway, knowing the above its easier to resist. From now on, I'll just let the nippers eat and I'll have something elsewhere.

The only issue I'd have had with the mum was her calling me 'hun', does my effing head in. She gave you a couple of hours peace, Bootooyou, call me, you can take my two to the cinema whenever you like - I'll give your son great presents too Wink.

Lee2010 - what are you on about???

Strictly results looming.

It's been ages, thanks for the laugh ladies.

TandB · 07/11/2010 19:37

Lee2010 - you don't seem inclined to let actual facts get in the way of a bit of hysterical hyperbole. Remember the disabled badge thread? "OMG what is your problem OP?! Don't you know any man woman or child has the right to demand to see your disabled badge? IT IS THE LAW". But it turned out that it wasn't.
This thread "EVERYONE IN AFRICA IS STARVING!!!" But that may well turn out not to be the case.
Can I suggest actually reading OPs, giving some thought to whether what you are about to rant about is actually relevant to the OP or subsequent discussion, and then removing any factual inaccuracies?

Animation · 07/11/2010 20:16

Oh for God'd sake - stop bloody hounding the OP - you go on again on again on again - what's up with you'll!!

Animation · 07/11/2010 20:19

What's up with YA'LL!!

400 posts and counting...???

booyhoo · 07/11/2010 20:26

sorry, this has been annoying me.

it's batted an eyelid. unless you want people poking the shite out of their eyes in response to this thread.

MaddonaldsMum · 08/11/2010 09:57

Well thanks a lot you lot. It was utterly HORRENDOUS at school this morning. As I waited ( on time) at the fence, I noticed everyone didn't even look me in the eye. They even curled into a semi circle.
I hope you are happy with yourself Bohoo or whatever you are calling yourself.

I took a note in for the teacher requesting that son has a free toilet pass after a lack of movement all weekend.
Never again will i let him go to a party like this.
I do hope he is ok.

OP posts:
pinkyp · 08/11/2010 10:21

Why are you saying "thanks a lot you lot" what have mn done? If your worried about your son eating one mcdonalds then your gonna be in for a big shock when he's a teenager!! Good luck!! I hope you never get a serious problem otherwise you'll be screwed!!

LoveBeingAMummy · 08/11/2010 10:26

You do know he probably ran out the back door and mugged an old lady to go and get another 'fix', he'll be on Big Tasties before the end of the day.

Jux · 08/11/2010 10:30

Personally, I think this woman was utterly irresponsible. What she should have done was take all the children in a fleet of taxis to the nearest sleb restaurant no matter how far and fed them properly. While they were eating she should have contacted the cinema and arranged a private viewing for her son's party.

She would thus ensure that no one had any complaints, except that she might have had to hang on to the kids for a couple of days while they travelled to the restaurant, back to the cinema, waited for the private showing, by which time they'd be hungry again so she'd have to feed them again.

Nah, McD's sounds more sensible.

ilovehens · 08/11/2010 10:33

It's not like the odd McD's is going to kill him or lead to long term health problems is it?

We eat healthily at home, but things have to be slightly more relaxed when we're out and about.

HuwEdwards · 08/11/2010 10:34

yes, I would have HUGE objection.

to being called 'hun'.
