to leave DS one in bed?

DS is 7. He woke up this morning crying saying he didn't feel well, that his arms & legs hurt. He said he didn't feel sick, butthen suddenly said he did. He wasn't sick, and seemed quite perky, not floppy & weak, but jiggling on one foot. So we got dressed & he ate a piece of toast and we walked to school with his friend, and they were very jolly scuffing through the leaves together.

Then the school called at 9.50 saying he was ill & had been dry retching & could I collec him. I have him at home now - he has colour in his face & is chatty and hasn't been sick. I don't actually think he is ill at all but thought he cold pull a fast one. So I have told him that as he is ill he should really stay in bed and sleep or read, as this will make him better.

I think he probably DID feel a bit off colour, but that it was growing pains, as it definitely isn't a vomit bug - the toast has stayed down.

I'm hoping that a boring day in bed without cartoons on the sofa will make him think twice next time...

YANBU. I did this with mine from a much younger age. They only stay off now if they feel really grotty! And if he really is ill, bed is the best place for him.

Win/win situation.

If mine are ill enough to be sent home from school then they are in bed with no tv or computer games or ds or anything. It is "very important that you rest my darling, you cannot possibly do any of these fun things as you are so ill". They recover remarkably quickly Grin

And thanks blessed too - I don't feel like a mean Mummy any more!

Soooo NBU.

If mine are not producing vast amounts of some bodily fluid then they know not to chance it. Staying in bed without ds or tv is soooo boring!
