AIBU to have epxected my curtains to have be pressed or ironed having paid over £100 to have them dry cleaned?

I am sure this is what they are supposed to do, surely?

Was a well known company BTW.

Dh is going in to query tomorrow.

The £100+ was fo 3 sets of very simple long curtains BTW. None ironed.

YANBU - I'd expect to be able to take them out of the packaging and hang them straight back up.

bellavita · 04/11/2010 19:19

£100 Shock is that how much dry cleaning costs these days?

I would have expected them to be ironed and wrapped in tissue paper with a bow round for that amount of money!

chandra · 04/11/2010 19:21

I would have expected them ironed just for the simple reason that they have been to the dry cleaners.

It should be a mistake, take them back tomorrow.

Hulababy · 04/11/2010 19:23

My plan was to hang them straight up. TBh they didn;t really need cleaning but we were having decorating done and they needed a decent press - hence the whole reason getting them done as it is impossible n a normal ironing board.

have taken photos and DH will take them into shop tomorrow as they are pretty heavy - and now hung anyway - well one pair are. He is going to request money back or them to be redone and checked before we leave.

Oh YANBU! They ARE meantto be ironed/steamed..they go through a sort of de-creasing machine I thought.

Hulababy · 04/11/2010 20:24

DH is going to speak to them tomorrow.

Having worked in a dry cleaners I can tell you that it's nigh on impossible to actually press large curtains, and many are not iron safe anyway. Do go back and see what they say though, and explain that even if that's the case, you didn't get the service you were expecting and feel that a goodwill partial refund is appropriate given that you weren't given explicit details of what would happen.

Hulababy · 04/11/2010 21:29

Thanks :)

Just very disappointed as we were not told beforehand that it wouldn't be possible to do the full service we have paid for. They look worse than they did befre we took them in.

In that case then I'd say definately go back and press them ('scuse the pun, I couldn't resist!) on what you were told would be included, and explain how disappointed you are, and emphasise that they are indeed worse now than before. On the upside, if they're very heavy, the creases will start to fall out very quickly after they're hung, with some careful shaking and wafting (iyswim). Let me know how you get on.

Hulababy · 06/11/2010 15:06

DH went back, with a couple of photos. They gave him a full refund.

Pannacotta · 06/11/2010 15:14

YOu could use the refund money to buy/hire a steam cleaner to press them with.

Heartsease · 06/11/2010 15:41

You're not being unreasonable to be disappointed and should certainly tell them so. I agree with Pannacotta though that probably what they need most is steaming while they're hanging rather than pressing flat. If they give you some money back I'd do as she suggests and get a steamer.

Opinionatedfreak · 06/11/2010 16:26

My iron does vertical steaming so you can do curtains in situ...

Not sure how long a big pair of curtains would take but I've done bedroom ones (each curtain = 137cm x 137cm) before with no problems.

Hulababy · 06/11/2010 22:52

Heartsease - they gave dh a full refund.

We are replacing the curtains next year anyway when we redo the living room, so will have to live with them for now.
