Please someone give me the written equivalent of a slap in the face to stop me wanting to burst into tears because my mat cover (who I employed as she was good!) has done really well at my job - at the moment I feel like lying down kicking and screaming like a 2 year old saying 'IT'S NOT FAIR NOBODY LOVES ME!' I think I need to belt up as the old expression goes...

Perhaps you could think of it as the fact that she's doing a good job meant that they've left you alone to enjoy your mat leave and concentrate on your baby? And I'm sure they have missed you really! Wink

Well think about it, you wouldn't really want someone who was going to screw everything up and leave you a great big mess to deal with when you go back to work would you?

And they don't prefer her to you - it's like when you are a SAHM. The DC rush to dad when he gets home because he's novel and exciting, but it's you they come running to when they fall over.

Thank you pj - this is exactly the kind of realistic commonsense stuff I need to hear (as opposed to the desperately childish WAHHH I come up with...Blush

look at it this way, if she had screwed up they would be blaming you.
so you can't win actually....
You just have to get back to work and get on with it. (oh, and never be ill or let your children be ill. Never let them keep you up all night so you're not on form the next day, either.)

I feel your pain. My mat cover arrived to do some handover time with me - I was huge and feeling v unattractive and in she comes - tall, superslim and super pretty and really nice. Not only that but she was given a full time post for a year...to do my part time job! I returned and was given back my part time job and she was paid a fat load to finish off a project.....I found it really hard and did secretly relish when she cocked something up Grin

My Maternity cover did such a good job I said 'Excellent, keep it!' and I started my own company.

My old company is one of my clients and I said to the CEO, who I used to support and she now supports 'You got lucky, she's even better than me.' He agreed. Grin

Thank you ladies - I am feeling so much better that I might just get up off the floor and blow my nose in a minute! Tee - I wish I had your chutzpah...that is cool Smile

TCOB it was the scariest thing I have ever done, sending in that letter that basically said 'I'm leaving a secure job in a pretty much recession free industry! See ya!'

Even scarier than moving from the US to the UK!
