Oh the twins. And drippy Gwendoline Mary, and Darrell Rivers... although I can't quite remember who went to which school.

YANBU read St Clares' and Malory Towers, and loved MT the best. At the time I was at boarding school, and it was very similar, with the midnight feasts and lacrosse.

Shame I didn't have access to malory towers but sounds like I would have loved it.

swanker · 10/06/2011 19:53

NoKissymum- I was a lot younger. Than teenaged when I read EB's books... probably read mallory towers aged 7 or 8.

nokissymum · 10/06/2011 20:04

Yes but still the stories were based on teenage girls of those days dont you think ? Can't imagine a story base around 14-18 yr old girls now talking about midnight feasts etc you only have to look at the teenage programs, there would definitely be lots of "sexy looking" girls, isabelle and pat will be "hot" girls, mini skirts, drinking, Janet would be an "alpha female".......

I'm too old!

i've recently reread all the Jill books and still adored them apart from the horrible ending of the final book. Jill and Anne decide they are going to give up ponies and learn something useful like typing instead, WTF?!!! As an adult I found it very depressing that Ruby Ferguson had ended the series like that. Part of me wants to reread MT and StC but I've been a bit scared to. Think I'm off to Amazon to look for MT collection.

I love loved loved St Clare's and M Towers. We all used to read them at school. All Enchanted Wood books were fab. I always wanted to get my hands on those magic treats that Moon Face used to serve up.

Other particular faves were the Famous Five, Secret Seven and Mr Meddle's Muddles. Enid Blyton was great. Lucky I was never offended by any of her books. Imagine a childhood with o Enid.

thumbwheel I loved Snugglepot and Cuddlepie - all the gumnut babies. Can't believe I had forgotten about them until you just mentioned it. Really sad to think they are out of print, will have to have a look in my old boxes next time I go home. Love all Enid Blyton books, but Famous Five were my favourite! Haven't read any Chalet books...am thinking I might need to start hitting the charity shops and car boot sales Smile

Hello, I'm new here.

I loved the Jill books and found them to be full of sly humour, for example a pony called "Sikey" turned out to be "Psyche" which Jill had thought was pronounced Fish. Plus the daft names for less sympathetic characters like Mercy Dulbottle and April, May and June Cholly-Sawcutt. Jill could be a bit smug though and mean to the kids who couldn't ride well, or weren't interested in horses.

Love famous five and sectret seven and reading to DS nearly 7 atm.

I have re read the Malory and Trebizon books and discovered Chalet girls when in my 20's. Could read a hole one in the bath.

Oh and LOVE the Naughtiest Girl in School series too.

youarekidding · 10/06/2011 22:01

I have got a lot of the Enid Blyton Mr Meddle etc in hard back from my kid days. Can't wait for DS to want to read to want to read to them.

I seem to remember something about a Mr Twiddle whose wife was always really mean to him and constantly referred to him as "Twiddle", whilst he always called her "dear", bless him. She made him do all kinds of errands for her, and got really cross with him whenever he messed up, sometimes slapping him over the head with a rolled-up newspaper. Or am I getting confused with Mr Meddle?

PetShopGirl · 10/06/2011 23:23

I bought all the Jill books from here a few months ago.

Absolutely as good as I remembered (although I do agree about the awful ending of the last book).
