To think this is odd about Playmobil figures

I just saw an advert for ther police station set and the set included a vehicle/van thing along with a police station/jail and police figures..and two robbers with swag bags....the ad has the robbers being arrested and put into jail...and both robbers are smiling cheerily!

Now really...if Playmobil are going to make play sets based on such negative facts of life then at least be real about it and have the robbers unsmiling or scarily frowning!

They are drug addicts who are desperate for the non-chaotic lifestyle of a stretch inside.

Why does does the burglar have a large bunch of keys? that isn't right, is it?

NotAnotherChinHair · 03/11/2010 16:27

They're both high... it's obvious

ForMashGetSmash · 03/11/2010 16:29

Duckling maybe they're skeleton keys?

libelulle · 03/11/2010 16:37

But tis what happens in small child land, no? The spoon-stealing burglar in mog the forgetful cat may look miserable, but he does hang around waiting for mr policeman and then have a nice cup of tea while everyone moons over mog. In the name of realism, should he have knocked Mr Thomas out cold and made off with the tv instead?

midnightexpress · 03/11/2010 16:38

In an advent calendar. Strange Germans.

Still, it's not as strange as the lego police station, where the mobile phone is about twice the size of the police officer (you can see it in the back of the police van in the picture).

ShirleyGunpowderPlot · 03/11/2010 16:39

midnight - that is the campest burglar I have ever seen. Is he doing the YMCA?

Poshpaws · 03/11/2010 16:40

Duplo is the same. We have a Police set with a smiling robber.

I think the DSs get a bit confused by this, as they sometimes have him driving the police van rather than being thrown in Grin

midnightexpress · 03/11/2010 16:40

libellule, tis true. I'm a big fan of Burglar Bill, but the verisimilitude is stretched somewhat at the thought of presumably fairly newly widowed widow-lady Burglar Betty out burgling houses when she mislaid her baby the night before by leaving it outside in a cardboard box.

Poshpaws · 03/11/2010 16:41

yy, midnight. That is the set we own. The phone is massive and the case never stays in the burglar's hand.

midnightexpress · 03/11/2010 16:41

Grin shirley, i think he might be. he's a rubbish robber anyway, largely on account of no elbows to speak of.

ShirleyGunpowderPlot · 03/11/2010 16:43

He looks positively DELIGHTED that he's about to be picked up by a policeman!

midnightexpress · 03/11/2010 16:44

poshpaws, but which is worse, I wonder - mahoosive duplo phone which is essentially useless as characters cannot feasibly use it, or teeeeeny weeeeny but in scale playmobil phone that will be choked on by small baby? You decide.

FWIW, DP thinks that playmobil is perhaps the end-point of capitalism - perfectly rendered society made out of small plastic parts.

Poshpaws · 03/11/2010 16:47

Good point. Teeny, weeny Lego bricks are bad enough without having to make a 'pretend' phone call on a teeny, weeny mobile.

LOL at your DP's comments

midnightexpress · 03/11/2010 16:50

Playmobil is like the child version of the Hufhaus, isn't it? They think of bloody everything. Except of course, that you don't get a vanful of Germans who come with the box, put the sodding thing together and sweep up all the schmutter afterwards. More's the pity.

mutable · 03/11/2010 17:00

We have the duplo set (it is fantastic btw!)... tbh I think the phone is big for the children to use, pretending to be HQ.

Yes though, the burglar is funny! (He is usually called papa in this house due to stubble similar to dh)

KurriPowderTreasonAndPlot · 03/11/2010 17:02

My DS (a big playmobil fan when young) e-mailed me this a while ago. It made me Grin especially the 'over reaction to someone falling off a bike' comment.

least appropriate playmobil sets.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 03/11/2010 17:03

ha ha at burglar betty - have wondered this myself

ForMashGetSmash · 03/11/2010 17:59

Shock at kurri's link! Oh my God! They have a TRAMP Playmobil set! with a homeless man on bench! Grin

OP posts:
midnightexpress · 03/11/2010 20:35

And what is with the policeman that goes with the tramp, in his poity German hat? It looks like somethng out of 1920s Berlin. Perhaps there's a Liza Minelli figure about to appear stage left in a leotard and a bowler hat?

Do German policemen really look like that?

Dracschick · 03/11/2010 20:40

there does come a point in life where we have to think - are we becoming too obsessed ???? and ladies im sorry Grin but this is on a par with me ringing up the bbc wanting to know what Max and Judys relationship is/was in the tweenies.

sethstarkaddersmum · 03/11/2010 20:45

I have the wino and the policeman.
The least appropriate ever was surely the trapper, which was only made for a little while before they discontinued him due to protests from animal rights organisations. He had a Davy Crockett hat, some squirrel skins drying out on frames, and one of those illegal traps with the teeth.
Wish I had him. Bet he is very valuable.

KathyImLost · 03/11/2010 20:55

Did anyone get the Lego advent calendar last Xmas? It wasn't very xmassy. It had members of the emergency services, a sign to indicate a blocked road etc. Me and DH were fearful that behind the door ob Dec 24th there'd be a mangled car.

Acekicker · 03/11/2010 21:01

I love Playmobil but their attempt at being multicultural makes me cringe Grin (the 'Familie' groups)

The Register's Friday Playmobil recreations of recent tech news stories are one of my guilty pleasures!
