grapes....

nannynobnobs · 02/11/2010 16:15

Google Images- Roman dress. I had one days notice too and whipped something up out of old cot sheets and fabric remnants. Packed lunch- didn't the Romans eat dormice? Confused

twirlymum · 02/11/2010 16:15

bread? Fruit?
Do you have an old sheet you can turn into a toga?

nannynobnobs · 02/11/2010 16:16

It really doesn't matter too much anyway... i went out of my way to make DD's as authentic as possible, fixing it the right way, hanging in the right direction etc- nobody gave a shite :(

whoneedssleepanyway · 02/11/2010 16:17

i think dried fruit too and figs

have you got any ivy in the garden and you can make a headdress thing

ShirleyGunpowderPlot · 02/11/2010 16:17

here for toga tying

(ignore him burbling on about sodding fabric, you MUST have an old sheet hanging around you can use)

Bit Confused about the packed lunch? Squirrels noses and suckling pig?

ledkr · 02/11/2010 16:18

Shall i just put it in the Hannah Montana lunchbox?Or wrap it in a muslin cloth.I wish i was good at this stuff.

White sheet, wrapped around waist and over shoulder (adult long white t-shirt underneath) and sandals.

Grapes, dates, stuffed vineleaves? and if you're feeling really creative, we made 'stuffed dormice' out of a bread roll with the children at school: put white icing on with chocolate sprinkles for the fur, raisins for eyes and nose, giant chocolate buttons for ears and a red liquorice shoelace for a tail.

ledkr · 02/11/2010 16:20

thats so helpfull thanks. Yeah i thought about the Ivy thing gosh this is easier than i thought, ive even got some squirrles noses in the freezer,on offer in Iceland.

honey sandwich? think they ate honey didn't they?

TitsalinaBumSquash · 02/11/2010 16:20

Just put in some crusty bread, grapes, raisins or any other dried fruit. Maybe some honey Cake if you can make one and some cheese. Wrap it in Baking Paper or in an old Muslin or something similar.

Tie a sheet round her for a toga and bobs your uncle.

ShirleyGunpowderPlot · 02/11/2010 16:21

wrap the ivy round a wire coathanger for a laurel!

I only get my squirrels noses for Waitrose.

olderandwider · 02/11/2010 18:07

Cover her in flour and she can go as a Roman statue?

Bottle of Italian wine?

ledkr · 02/11/2010 18:21

thats a good one. Then i couldtake her down the arcade after school, stand her on a box and tell her to stand stil hat on the floor, instant money!

Apple juice
bread
cheese
grapes
honey in some form-?sandwiches
definitely the toga option

miffyjane · 02/11/2010 19:56

white chocolate mice (waitrose)

Goober · 02/11/2010 19:59

Dressing gown.
Grapes.
Wine. (yes I know she is 8, but it will be fab-a-less.)

Seabright · 02/11/2010 20:00

I made one the other day:

Take 1 white pillow, cut arm holes and head hole. Fray the bottom. Stick or glue some ribbon around the neck & tie some more around the waist (I think I remember from school that purple was the top class Roman colour). Pin large metal brooch on (or make one from tine foil).

Ta Da!

ledkr · 02/11/2010 21:34

Done it now. It quite crap but dd found a sparkly spanish scarf in my drawer and has added that. Its not at all roman but shes happy and thats the main thing. Has a hunk of bread and some dried fruit and grapes and a scone(roman one)with some honey so hey ho.
Gets on my nerves all this malarky tbh. Thanks everyone.

glad you got it sorted, too late for you now but I have resorted to ebay or costume hire shops rather than suffer the pain of actuallly making costumes for school dress-up days.

TiggyD · 02/11/2010 22:37

Don't forget a sponge on a stick for wiping her bum!
