to think man with tiny baby in sling should not be cycling down hills and main roads at high speed?

Just saw man on a bicycle, small baby (no bigger than 3 months - inward facing in a babybjorn) on a major road near us, going at considerable speed....

This just feels wrong to me???? That baby has no protection, right, and this is not the same as having a child in a proper child seat on the back where a child would be wearing a helmet???

AIBU, or just silly to worry?

Sounds incredibly dangerous to me. Is it legal?

belgo · 02/11/2010 16:00

Parents do this all the time in Belgium, it's a very common sight. YANBU, it is dangerous in my opinion, and having seen a girl come off her bike just last week (on a cycle path, no other vehicles or bikes involved) and sustain nasty injuries, I would hate to think how a baby would fair in a bicycle accident.

Well, I really did a double take! I thought it was a back pack on his front to start with, then as he whizzed around a corner just in front of me, I saw a baby..... clearly visible in a pink sling.

I think that sounds totally and utterly irresonsible, am slightly in Shock that someone would do this with a tiny baby...

anonymousbird · 02/11/2010 16:11

He was going so fast, no helmet himself, pulling in front of a school bus, oh the list goes on!! Complete disregard to the baby's safety, god forbid that they should fall or be hit, I don't see how the baby escapes serious injury.....

Glad it's not just be being over protective!

It drive me nuts too when I see cyclists without helmets on, crazy IMO

Sounds like something my XH would do. Which is one reason among many he is now X. Thank god I didn't have kids with him.

I saw a man cycling at speed down a main road with a screaming toddler tucked under his arm. Was pretty horrifying.

Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock

Wow. Just... wow.

Could you ask the police for advice and tell them where he cycles from/to and maybe they could wait for him and have a word in his shell like?

How totally irresponsible.

anonymousbird · 03/11/2010 09:36

It's the first time I had seen it, so no idea if this is regular behaviour or a one off, but for sure, if I saw it again, I think I would have to say something/call police or whatever.

Neolara - that is Shock too.
