Just picked ds up from school as poorly. Problem is I have smear test appt this pm. Should I cancel?

OP posts:
faverolles · 02/11/2010 13:28

I would cancel and make it for next wek. :)

Elsaz · 02/11/2010 13:28

I would just rebook. Not fair on poorly ds to drag him out to surgery.

winnybella · 02/11/2010 13:28

Well, if she's coughing etc I would cancel out of consideration for other people in the waiting room.

If not, I don't see a problem.

faverolles · 02/11/2010 13:28

Or next week maybe Blush

femalevictormeldrew · 02/11/2010 13:28

I would cancel too

arfasleep · 02/11/2010 13:28

If you have no-one else who'll mind him might be best to, can you get another appointment quite easily? Could he wait in the waiting room with friend (?) while you go in to be seen ?

Deliaskis · 02/11/2010 13:29

Is the waiting room 'overseen' by a receptionist or similar? Would DS sit there quietly with a book or is he 'not that kind of boy'? I would ask at reception (maybe call them and ask before you go) what they suggest, this can't be the first time this has happened.

Witchcat · 02/11/2010 13:29

I would take him and ask if receptionest could keep an eye on him as you have a smear test. It will not take long.

Or have the cutain drawn and have him in the room with you. He just needs to sit still for 10 mins when the nurse looks at you.

badfairy · 02/11/2010 13:29

Yes cancel - 1 week isn't going to make any difference.

blueberryboybait · 02/11/2010 13:30

What is wrong with him? If D&V or chicken poxy thing definitely cancel. If a cold/cough that you would normally take him out with them yes and leave him in the reception with a book.

BooBooImpaledOnBrokenGlass · 02/11/2010 13:32

Actually, one week could make a difference, they prefer you to go mid cycle so the sample isn't contaminated (lovely).
I'd take him and just sit him with a comic the other side of the curtain. You can ask for a nurse chaperone in a smear, so I'd do that and get her to look after him rather than you iyswim

ragged · 02/11/2010 13:49

What BooBoo said.

Hullygully · 02/11/2010 13:50

I had a smear with 18 mth old dd sitting on my chest looking into my face while they did the necessary down below.

Irrelevant but there you are.

I took 6 DC with me. She sat in the waiting room reading a 4 year old vogue.

She was ok. She knew where I was.

Timbachick · 02/11/2010 13:55

Smears are usually booked for around day 10 if your cycle. However, most smears can be done form day 10 to day 18. Best bet is to call the surgery and ask whether it can be rebooked for a few days time or whether it matters if DS is there.

gramercy · 02/11/2010 13:59

He's six, not two.

Perfectly all right to sit other side of curtain reading a comic or even out in waiting room.

OhLuckyYou · 02/11/2010 14:08

I would have no objection to taking him if it was during hols etc and no other choice, but if he's too poorly to be at school then surely he should not be out and about - risking infection to others not to mention he probably won't feel well enough to sit around while you have your appointment.

cumbria81 · 02/11/2010 14:55

can't he just wait in the waiting room?

SuzanneV · 02/11/2010 16:09

I recently had to have an examination and didn't want to take dc's in with me, asked doc if they could wait outside the door and she very kindly said they could sit in the Waiting Room and the reception staff would keep an eye on them. Very kind of them all, though would say it is a v. small rural surgery and everyone knows everyone.

whoneedssleepanyway · 02/11/2010 16:11

I took both the DDs with me on Fri last week and the receptionist watched them for 10 mins while I had it done, DH was supposed to have them but had a meeting. I gave them both a box of raisins and they sat as good as gold and didn't show me up for once.

Go because otherwise you won't get round to it this month and then it will be aonther month before you have it.

whoneedssleepanyway · 02/11/2010 16:13

Just read that HullyGully, make me feel better about having my bikini wax one time while both DDs sat in the corner Blush
