Yesterday I went to see if I could get a new zip fitted in my fleece and was gobsmacked to find it would cost £18 yes folks EIGHTEEN POUNDS

18 bloody quid to get a zip fitted

rip off Britain or what

I think I will sew some poppers on and bollocks to paying £18

Well if I were doing it, it would take about 3 hours. I think £6 per hour is okay!

TethHearseEnd · 31/10/2010 19:54

Have you thought of sellotape?

pantaloons · 31/10/2010 19:55

It's a fiver round here for a new zip.

monstermonster · 31/10/2010 19:56

could you not pop down to your local haberdashery type place or maybe John Lewis and buy a new zip yourself? They're usually quite good at talking you through how to change them and will tell you what thread you need?

I did this last year for a bag and they talked me through it all and all the bits cost maybe £8?

PanicMode · 31/10/2010 19:56

That does sound extremely expensive - I am paying £8 to get a new zip put in my bespoke jeans which cost almost £300. (However, given how much I love them, I would have paid £18 - albeit very grudgingly!)

StarkAndWitchesWillFindYou

It was a sewing alterations place I went to with sewing machines and the like and I think it would not take more than 30 mins. Even if the zip cost £5 that is £26 a hour

To be honest if I tried to do it I'd still be doing it next week so I'd probably pay that or more likely buy a new fleece.

LMHF - They were a VERY extravagant, one off purchase (I don't think I've spent as much on anything since!) but they are incredible. They don't bring me breakfast in bed, but they do make me look 2 stone lighter than I am - so for that I'll forgive them their failings in the tea-bringing department Grin

PanicMode

are you mad?

jeans are jeans

PanicMode · 31/10/2010 20:14

Unless they are bespoke jeans. I too was a sceptic.....

LittleMissHissyFangs · 31/10/2010 20:32

I think we need to see a before and after shot then.... [hgrin]

PanicMode · 31/10/2010 20:36

They're still at the repairers....but perhaps when they're back!

RandyRussian · 31/10/2010 20:44

New zip costs £10 around here (SW London) so yes I would say you're being ripped off.
