I hate Halloween

Who is with me?

I'm fine with All Hallows Eve, with traditional practices such as putting a candle in the window to guide dead relatives home and having picnics in grave yards, but I can't stand the American Halloween.

It's an excuse to sell rubbish, sell sweats, sell stupid costumes and encourage children to go knocking on strangers doors demanding free stuff and turn violent if they don't get it and gangs of little shits can roam the streets mugging people while wearing masks.

I hate it.

wow someone got out of the wrong side of the bed today.

The dead are dead, end of they do not come home or get guided anywhere.
Dead, buried eaten by worms....

My FIL died on Halloween, but we still let the kids dress up (they are not little shits and have never mugged anyone)
We carve a pumpings and make chocolates and have fun, as that s all is it, a bit of fun

am with you, it's an American consumer trend that people are now following like sheep, IMHO

Scuttlebutter · 29/10/2010 12:59

I don't like it either. Our city is having to suspend certain bus routes on Halloween because the charming young people living there are stoning the buses and attacking the drivers. Delightful.

ttalloo · 29/10/2010 13:09

I'm with you, Ryoko - I hate the way Halloween has become a massive marketing exercise aimed at children with shops selling hideous overpriced costumes and masks and black and orange sweets and cakes.

And as for trick or treating - I really resent children and teenagers I've never clapped eyes on before appearing at my door demanding sweets, whether accompanied by their parents or not.

My DSs are four and two so I've managed to avoid all Halloween-related propaganda so far, but once DS1 starts school I'm going to try very hard to withstand any requests he makes to go trick or treating. [sceptical]

I hate it.
Whenever we get knocks on the door and big groups of dc yelling "trick or treat" I'm so tempted to shout "trick" and chuck a bucket of water at them.

Obviously, I would never do this! :o

Our dog loves halloween. He'll be in the back garden to greet visitors.
