to be annoyed at my friend?

I went to the sainsburys half price sale this morning and was there for 7am when the shop opened. My friend asked me to look out for a specific toy for her son as she wouldn't be able to get there till after 10 and she didn't want to miss out on it. Which I did then sent her a message letting her know I'd got it. Just received a message on fb saying she'd bought one when she went so I can keep mine.
AIBU to be annoyed that in £25 out of pocket or a couple of hours out of time if I return it after doing her a favour and dd's not into buzz lightyear so its not even something I can just wrap up for her.

Wait till the week before Christmas then sell it on ebay!

WriterofDreams · 29/10/2010 00:09

Did she ask you to buy it for her, or just look out for it?

anonymosity · 29/10/2010 00:10

That is a bit stinky. I'd be annoyed, QUITE.

stargazer83 · 29/10/2010 00:12

Sorry I wasn't clear she asked my to buy it and she'd give me the money next week when we meet up.

Yes, I got it, I'd be annoyed with HER - very!

WriterofDreams · 29/10/2010 00:17

In that case I'd be fuming. Why didn't she text you and ask you not to get it? Grrrr. I would let her know I wasn't very happy about this and I would follow Jolly's suggestion to sell it on ebay. Or do you have a nephew or neighbour who might appreciate it?

Maybe a mum on MN might like it?

zipzap · 29/10/2010 00:25

Take it back to sainsbury's for a refund - they may well let her take it back so they can resell it the way the toys are flying out of the doors...

pigletmania · 29/10/2010 00:37

I got one for dd from the Disneystore for £20

CrazyPlateLady · 29/10/2010 09:15

I would be really angry and tell her that you bought it as she asked you to.

I would just take it back tbh. There are loads of Buzz Lightyears around, can't see you making anything on ebay, but I would let her know how irritated you are.

2boysandbean · 29/10/2010 10:24

sell it on ebay you will make more money and get p&p covered !!

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 29/10/2010 10:27

that is bad of her!

Heracles · 29/10/2010 10:28

Yeah, that's really rather rude. YANBU

Gory09 · 29/10/2010 10:30

I would think that if it is unopened and you still have receipt they will take it back in Sainsbury's.

Sarsaparilllla · 29/10/2010 10:32

Annoying, but take it back, I'm sure they'll give you a refund

KiwiKat · 29/10/2010 10:36

I'd reply on FB:

No thanks, I DON'T want it! Let me know when it's convenient for you to take it back for my refund.

ZombiePlan · 29/10/2010 11:15

Why should you have the hassle? Tell her to take hers back and give you tyhe mney as planned.

cumfy · 29/10/2010 13:13

Bet she didn't get one and just changed her mind.Wink

pickledbabe · 29/10/2010 13:25

I would definitely tell her that she should have told you that she'd got one when she got it - and you should also tell her that you're annoyed that she now expects you to get rid of something you didn't want in the first place - nto like it's a £5 toy, is it????

JodiesMummy · 29/10/2010 13:29

YANBU - dont do her a favour again!!

ENormaSnob · 29/10/2010 14:41

Yanbu

She is taking the piss and should give you the money and return the one she bought.

PinkieMinx · 29/10/2010 15:08

YANBU - cheeky caaahh!!

onmyfeet · 29/10/2010 16:49

Tell her to get real! Too late, she asked, you bought it, she can deal with returning it herself. Tell her to come pick it up and pay you. And to not ask you for any more favours!

KiwiKat · 29/10/2010 17:23

Oooh - get her to pick up something REALLY expensive, $100 or so, then tell her you've changed your mind, and just to keep it herself or give it to someone. Ha! Grin

stargazer83 · 30/10/2010 00:23

I returned it today for a refund which was a pain in the ass but not worth arguing with her over I'll just remember in the future and either say no or take cash upfront
