In previous years we have either been out/not answered the door/not had any, so I have no idea what they will be expecting!

So do I need to go and buy sweets/chocolate etc or are we supposed to give them cash these days (which is what my mum thinks is the case!)

I will be giving them haribo type eyeballs and dripping guts type sweets

Other years I've bought something that I would eat myself so if it doesn't all go I've got something.

My dc still talk about last year when a certain neighbour had run out of chocolate and gave them some pennies each!

I think gooey sweet stuff is the way to go btw

lollipopshoes · 28/10/2010 14:27

oh, YANBU btw Wink

GoreRenewed · 28/10/2010 14:27

Mini packets of chocolate buttons, treat sized mars bars etc. I don't give money

Oh and YES YABVU! Grin

A kick up the arse. There, that's unreasonable for you :o

We're never in on Halloween as my mother does a Halloween party but I leave a bowl of funsize on the doorstep and am always really pleased to see that there is some left. Just a little thing but it means that the kids either don't want them only take a handful as opposed to greedily filling their boots (I like to think)

HeadFairy · 28/10/2010 14:29

Can't be arsed to buy special halloween themed sweets, they're lucky to get anything at all but in the interests of being neighbourly I have bought some fun size bags of mars bars and malteasers as they were on 2 for 1 in Sainsburys, we also have tons of mini Haribo bags left from ds's birthday so some of those will go in too.

GoreRenewed · 28/10/2010 14:29

We never run out Sad I carve pumpkins, put up spiders web and a luminous skeleton and fill my massive Irish oak fruit bowl with chocolate and hardly anybody ever comes. I feel like Billy NoMates TBH

CerealOffender · 28/10/2010 14:30

nothing, greedy fat little fuckers. they are all obese enough. maybe i should lace some mini mars bars with alli

RockBat · 28/10/2010 14:30

:( Gore. Oh that's really sad :(

My mother never gets any either and she holds a fecking party!

NewbeeMummy · 28/10/2010 14:31

I just give our fun sized sweets/choc's I made some choc brownies filled with rasberry jelly (I thought that was a good blood looking type sweet) and mulled wine for the parents and was told off by 3 seperate parents, so these days I just by what's on offer and once it's gone, I switch off the front door light.

sickoftheholidays · 28/10/2010 14:31

I just go to home bargains and pick up assorted sweets/lollies funsize haribo. I dont give cash, and anyone asking for it (older kids sometimes try it on) they get nothing at all.

GoreRenewed · 28/10/2010 14:33

It is isn't it Rockbat

Deliaskis · 28/10/2010 14:33

I get a tin of something like Miniature Heroes or Celebrations or whatever, and let them take a small handful (like 3 or 4) each.

hellphireblue · 28/10/2010 14:33

I'm seeing an upside to buying lots of goodies and then not having any trick or treaters Grin

cereal you could do that but you may get a few presents of your own left on your doorstep!

CerealOffender · 28/10/2010 14:34

arf! i think it takes a wee while to kick in.

Marlinspike · 28/10/2010 14:34

Why were you told off newbee? I would love the idea of mulled wine and homemade brownies!

sparkle1977 · 28/10/2010 14:44

Grin at CerealOffender!!

We give out whatever sweets we have in the house that nobody wants!! This year they will be leftover sweets from DS's birthday party a few weeks ago.

Asking for cash ?? Shock
Not come across that one yet and anyone that does have the cheek will get the door shut promptly.

diddl · 28/10/2010 14:46

Treatsize mars/snickers/bounty.

One of each, choice of two or choice of one, that´s the dilemma!

cumbria81 · 28/10/2010 15:15

When I used to go trick or treating as a child, one family in the neighbourhood were very into healthy eating and used to give us fruit from their greenhouse.

Needless to say, we were NOT impressed.

BuntyPenfold · 28/10/2010 15:26

I give Haribo or similar junk, mini mars, and have M & S chocolates for my grandson, who would probably rather have the Haribo.
I also have dog treats as quite a lot of dogs visit too!

I get a lot of children round, all polite, and have never given out money (and never will).

Going to Gorerenewed's house this year btw Wink

emptyshell · 28/10/2010 15:26

I don't answer the door on Halloween (I don't generally answer the door much anyway as it's usually just flipping chuggers or double glazing salesmen). I just have never agreed with trick or treating around strangers' houses to be honest - so I'll just unplug the doorbell that evening (not that we ever get much around here - this street's incredibly quiet... apart from chuggers - it's infested with them).

BuntyPenfold · 28/10/2010 15:28

OOOh, and going to newbees too!

TOLD OFF?? What ungrateful neighbours you have.

Dylthan · 28/10/2010 15:29

Monkey nuts. We used to get given these every year when I was little.

We normally take dc up to their granny's so leave a bowl out. I mixed monkey nuts with funsize sweets in the bowl. When we got back all the sweets were gone but the monkey nuts remained.

Dh has now banned me from buying them as he's sick of being left with them. I feel sad that it's breaking the tradition of somthing I associate with Halloween Sad

BuntyPenfold · 28/10/2010 15:38

Are they peanuts Dylthan?
