to moan about my neighbour

My neighbour has three dc's 21 16 and 11 she has not worked since she fell pregnant with oldest one. One child is disabled (ADHD)so she gets carers allowance & dla & tax credits and she gets child maintenence of £900 a month for two dc's plus £600 for the other as well as income support housing benefit and council tax benefit. She gets well over £800 a month and says she is jealous of me and my dp for earning £300 a week combined income yet we have to pay full rent council tax etc

Now I know she is entitled to this money but she constantly moans that she is skint and has no money yet buys her dc's things like dsi's when they throw tantrums (apparently hospital told her to because one of her dc's might have had to have an operation). She has just got back from a fortnights holiday and already booked a month long cruise. She goes away every 3 weeks for four days to her boyfriends house yet claims she can not work because her dc is disabled and can't be left alone for even ten minutes and constantly says things like hmmm decisions which £100 bag shall i buy.

I am so tempted to stop speaking to her because I want to say something about getting a grip but don't want to cause problems and be nasty. I understand people need benefits etc but people like this frustrate me as they take money from people who really need it

I understnad your frustration totally. What is her 21 year old doing?

Also where is/are the father(s) in all this?

moaningmoaner · 27/10/2010 22:03

21 year old does not do anything either two absent fathers one left 18 years ago one left 8 years ago but they pay £1500 a month between them

Nice. Generation 2 with the 21 year old in not working.

If she's getting £1500 a month from the fathers I hope she's told the DWP that.....

moaningmoaner · 27/10/2010 22:09

yes they are aware but they don't count maintenance in calculations any more and disregard for housing benefit etc too

You know an awful lot about her finances, I guess you've been listening to her or the two of you have been talking about money perhaps too much. Maybe time to take a step back.

moaningmoaner · 27/10/2010 22:31

she tells me every time i see her she only ever talks about money or her boyfriend she does not have many friends so don't want to appear rude but it gets my back up how she can have 3 times our income and still moan she thinks we are rich

Sounds like you need to avoid if you can. Reclaim your head-space!Grin
