AIBU to not set up FB and other social networking sites for exH / DD?

ExH hasn't bothered for ten years but I did make an email address recently so that he could get news of her and so we could send pictures. I don't check it much but I did earlier and there are invitations to every bloody site on the planet!

DD is ten.

I have sent this reply: Thanks for all the invitations but I don't think that it is appropriate or lawful and while I could set one up, I would hate at a later date for anyone to think she is sixteen when she is actually just thirteen.

I see he has 498 "friends" too. I really hope that some of them are "John Smith" from the CSA / HMRC / DWP Grin but it worries me that he obviously doesn't have proper privacy controls on his page. I can see all his stuff on a search and he wants to add my DD?

But honestly, am I being silly not letting her have accounts?

No, don't do it, Ninks. It might only be three years until she can legitimately have FB account, but I think A LOT of maturing is done in that time - not for everyone, but for a lot of people.

Stick to emails. Far too young to be on Facebook imo.
