At supermarket with my friend and the DC's to get Halloween things.

DS see's his friend from school's Mum.

All the DC's went to the same nursery so we all know each other but only to talk to at school with the other mum iyswim. Friends dc's go to a different school DS and this Mums DD have been in same class through infants, (now yr2).

Ds is talking to his school friends Mum and I had to nip to car as forgotten something. As I return the other mum says to my friend 'We're having a Halloween party Saturday if you and DD's want to come'.

Now before you flame me I know not everyone gets to go to everything and DS is well aware of this but I think to invite 2 other DC's to his classmates party in front of him is a bit mean tbh.

Luckily DS is sensible and said 'I would have liked to go the party but maybe will invite me next time.'

Is it girls only? You say that your friends dds were invited. Maybe the friends mum thought that your ds wouldn't want to go or maybe her or her dd only wanted girl friends?

I think it is rude to ask in front of someone you are not inviting tbh. Even if there is a perfectly good reason for not inviting that person.

No not girls only afaik - it wasn't the point he's not invited - thats just life but that she activly asked a 5&6 yo to a party to the other 6yo classmate in front of him.

Thanks, spooky I was really proud of him and let him have the choccy orange he wanted as it was on offer. We're having DVD/choccy oange fest instead on Saturday [hgrin]

yanbu it was really thoughtless of her, your ds could easily have been a lot more upset than that and it would have been her fault

juuule - it may be girls only but its a bit much imo to ask a 6yo to read between the lines - all he witnessed was them being invited to a party not him. If he's not invited then don't mention it.

TBH if we hadn't bumped into this mum she wouldn't have invited the dd's either they just seem to agree to catch up when they meet by oppotunity iyswim.

Firwala - I'm almost gutted he didn't ask her if he could go - for once I'd have let the other parent do the explaining to DS [hgrin]

just a thought but if your ds is in the same class as the party child is there a chance that your ds has already been invited and had an invite floating around in a school bag/classroom tray or the like? when my dcs were younger I was put out at the lack of invite to some parties only to find invites weeks later. in fact on a couple of occasions ds didn't give me invites to parties he didn't want to go to (particuarly girl's parties)

Nothing in book bag its empty!! And I'm sure if he'd been invited the Mum would have said something like 'Is DS coming, you've not RSVP'd?' 'Would DS like to come too?'

Thanks for responces, my friend rang today and apologised that she had asked her dd's in front of DS.

I pointed out it wasn't her fault but her dd's have said they'd rather do film and choccy with DS than go to the party.

I old my friend thats her decision but go if they want, DS isn't actually bothered luckily it just seemed rude.

Your friend sounds lovely. Might be an idea to do something nice that day with your ds anyway?

We've planned a DVD, duvet and choccy afternoon . Friends girls want to do this, popcorn too. Makes what DS classmates mum did even more mean as in fact the dd's arent that bothered about going anymore than DS is.
