to be able to buy age 5 jeans from NEXT that fit round the waist!

I bought a pair for DS (5) who is 'normal' sized, neither over or under weight and bugger me if I can't get his little brother in them too! They are massive! 60cm round the waist.

That's crazy. I know some children are bigger but a 5 year old with 60cm waist just is not normal. How can NEXT think that that's OK Shock.

try vertbaudet or other european brands they make them narrower cut

TheProvincialLady · 26/10/2010 15:49

Next have very bizarre ideas about children's sizing. Especially their trousers.

My waist size is about 24-25" which is about the same as 60cm isn't it? But then I am 5'2" so the leg measurement would probably be about right tooGrin

ForMashGetSmash · 26/10/2010 15:49

Massive? 60cm equals 23 inches and is not massive! Most grown averagely sized women have at least a 30 or 32 inch waist...which reflects the average sze 14-16 dress size. So yes...YABU...or showing off the fact that you are skinny. I have a 6 year old DD and she fits into 5 to 6 trousers perfectly...she's on the sknniy side of average fr her age.

RiojaLover75 · 26/10/2010 15:51

Erm I'm not talking about trousers for me! They're for my five year old DS!

blimey, next have obviously changed a lot then. my kids could never fit into next at all as the sizes were too narrow and we couldn't get the buttons done up.

(kids have pe everyday and do an additional 7 hours of full-on sport a week - they aren't exactly plus size...)

RiojaLover75 · 26/10/2010 15:57

That's what I mean NickofTime It's vanity sizing gone mad!

Some of these stores are completely random on waist sizes; it's the one area of fit we always struggle with (another one with normal-to-slim dcs).

Primark and M&S I find similarly huge round the middle. I'm always on the lookout for adjustable waists.

Elasticated belts are useful too (you can get them in Next, funnily enough).

RiojaLover75 · 26/10/2010 16:09

Yes these do have the elastic/ button bit inside the waist but even when taken in they look ridiculous.

Can't even take the bloody things back as I stupidly took the tags off as he needed to wear them in an emergency (lack of washing done) [where is the slattern smiley when you need it]

I always look out for adjustable waists now.

i havent known about them to long Blush

someone mentioned the buttons and elastic on the inside, so i had a look at all the kids jeans we had and most were adjustables Grin

Tiredmumno1 · 26/10/2010 16:12

Op maybe you could exchange them even without the tags, you could have taken them off because they were a birthday present.

no harm in asking.

lovemyangels · 26/10/2010 18:59

Next sell adjustable waist trousers too!

ForMashGetSmash · 26/10/2010 19:22

Ah....the wording of your title made it look like you said they fit YOU around the waist...

AIBU "to be able to buy age 5 jeans from Next that fit around the waist"

It was the "to be able" which threw me...because unless you titled it "To be UNABLE to buy age 5 jeans from Next that fit around the waist" then it does not read well or make much sense! Grin sorry...I'm a pedant.

It's impossible to be unreasonable to be able to do something....

nancydrewrocked · 26/10/2010 19:28

Next girls sizing is crazy. DD is almost 6 and I can no longer buy her jeans from there because they are huge round the waist.

I bought her a cute kilt there a month or so ago and the 3yrs hung off her hips. She is a completely normal sized 5 year old.

RiojaLover75 · 26/10/2010 20:18

Ah thanks for that Mash, in my haste I didn't re-read what I had typed Grin.

I have kept the label so I'll take the jeans back and try the 'not fit for purpose' card and see if I can get an exchange Wink.

MumNWLondon · 26/10/2010 20:22

My DD is 7, I would say normal for 7 year old (ie not skinny but not fat) and I just bought her 2 pairs of jeans - one with adjustable waist that needs taken in and the other not with elastic waist more like jeggings that fit fine although now you mention it not tight but not so loose that its a problem.

IAPJJLPJ · 26/10/2010 20:23

I exchanged my jeans without tags. I got the wrong size as they didn't have tags on and were on the wrong hanger.
