In Primark today. 2 girls with their mum - one looked slightly older than my DD and one slightly younger so I assume they were around 3 1/2 and 2 1/2. Both walking around with dummies in (not that this is that strange I'm just setting the scene), both with pierced ears (which I hate but I know some people think is fine). They were both dressed in just a sleepsuit (thin popper style). The younger one's sleepsuit was about a foot too long and she was tripping up with every step - it was also filthy as it had been trailing the floor ans she had no shoes on. The older girl didn't have this problem as the mother had chosen to team her sleepsuit with a pair of pink, glittery high heels Hmm

OP, yanbu

The mother had had both her babies ears pierced though, so what can you expect

DialMforMother · 26/10/2010 11:25

And the high heels? They were necessary as an orthapedic aid to correct the little girl's heel deformity?

thequimreaper · 26/10/2010 11:26

I did think that maybe they'd driven but the nearest place you could park is quite a bit away from the store...
I saw the earrings, I saw the dummies, I saw the ill-fitting, filthy babywear and I made a judgement. I would like to think that had the mother seemed to be rushing around looking panicked I would have asked if she needed help but she wasn't.
And whoever asked if I would have judged the mum if she had a Bugaboo and was in John Lewis - of course I would. I would have thought she was a yummy mummy with a look-at-me pram!
And just so you can all judge me - not only do I have shit clothes I also have a tall vase filled with gold-sprayed twigs in my house. So there [hgrin]

How do you know that the ear piercings weren't some new-fangled hearing aid designed to look like earrings? So not only are these children DEAF and fleeing mummy-beating pyromaniacs and also one of them has a heel deformity but they have to tolerate being judged by a Primarni-shopping twig collector.

thequimreaper · 26/10/2010 11:44

And maybe coming on here isn't helping the kids but what else could I do. While having your kids walk around without shoes is unpleasant for them, especially if they're tripping over their sleepsuit, I doubt social services would be interested. There are a lot of things that parents do that I don't think are great for kids but unless actual abuse is taking place I wouldn't say anything to the parents. I am free, however to come on here and talk about it. And I doubt the mother will see my comments cos she just didn't look the type to come on Mumsnet Wink

.......Or she really was just a rubbish mother. It does happen.

spleenvent · 26/10/2010 11:46

Rubbish mother.

Only on Mumsnet would you get berated for calling a shit mum on being a shit mum.

MadAboutQuavers · 26/10/2010 11:47

Grin at Spleen

spleenvent · 26/10/2010 11:52

Oh hai Quavers Wink

GiganGORE · 26/10/2010 11:54

well if you will shop in primark..................

Wink
spleenvent · 26/10/2010 11:59

Whilst everyone is beating Primark with the snobby stick, I just got some 120 denier tights from there for £2. Yes, TWO QUID. Never paying £16 for Wolford tights again.

And if anyone thinks that the Wolfod tights aren't span off in the same sweatshops as Primarni, they need a swift reality check.

thequimreaper · 26/10/2010 12:06

The only stuff I've ever had a problem with from there, to be fair, is stuff with buttons. They always fall off and need sewing on again.

spleenvent · 26/10/2010 12:11

I will use Primark for some stuff, not others. Hate the chiffon-y polyester stuff they use for dresses/tops that makes you sweat like a bitch. I love their tights, scarves, hats, gloves, gym wear and flip flops in the summer.

muminthemiddle · 26/10/2010 12:25

Seeing a kid in dressing up clothes wouldn't bother me.

Seeing a child without shoes and a coat in this weather would. Couple that with pierced ears and I am on high judgey pants alert, even in Primark. Was she swigging from a can of strong larger too? and screaming at the kids.
We all judge.

muminthemiddle · 26/10/2010 12:26

Another thought. Perhaps she couldn't afford children's shoes because of the expense of buying variuos earrings in Claires and the like?

spleenvent · 26/10/2010 12:29

DS goes everywhere in his Spiderman outfit. I think it's cute Blush

Anyway, despite being a self-confessed judgey snob, DS was sat in his pushchair on sunday eating Greggs produce and cheerfully swigging a Fruit Shoot. I kept giving other mothers sideways glances, trying to work out if they might be MNers. No threads started about this so am assuming I got away with it Grin

Hello. Just wanted to apologise to everyone for coming over all smug about my sprogs earlier on. Blush

domeafavour · 26/10/2010 21:54

maybe they were in Primark, buying some clothes, because they were the only ones that they had?!

epicfail · 27/10/2010 06:21

wtf IS Primark??

domeafavour · 27/10/2010 08:00

The judging on mm drives me insane. We don't all do it. Some people look and try and understand the reasons for it. I think it's the like the half full/ half empty argument. Some are quick to judge, others think of an explanation.

MsKalo · 27/10/2010 08:09

I love the way people are so 'judgmental' to the people who are posting the threads here sometimes! This is a place for observations is it not and thoughts, opinions etc but I have found some people love to have a right go for women who post their threads on here. By 'the way I do think it is shocking that those two little girls were walking round like that! And I hate dummies! ;-)

MsKalo · 27/10/2010 08:10

And fruit shoots are the devil!
