To really really HATE winter sun

Loads of people I know, including DH, talk about beautiful, lovely, sunny winter days so why do I hate them? The morning winter sun is merciless in showing wrinkles, open pores, thread veins, wiry grey hairs that stand to attention on my scalp. Its unforgiving on the palest, flabbiest, stretch-marked, goose-pimply skin. It shows dust in the house, finger marks, cobwebs, peeling paint ..........I could go on and on.

With due respect to anyone suffering from SAD, what is there to like about this weather? Give me a storm, a dull day, dark nights with wind and rain - anything except the fecking bright winter sun!

I like it. But I agree it's unforgiving. Also a bugger for driving in as it always gets in your eyes.

But I also like storm and wind and rain and mist and frost. Not sure keen on dull quiet damp days - horrible in a town.

I like sun without heat - heat brings me down,

I love winter sun, can't understand why anyone wants to wear sunglasses (but appreciate that everyone is different). It cheers me up to see some sun amid the dark greyness of rain & winter. I love the feel of sun on my face whether in winter or summer TBH Smile

I love it, but then I come from a country where the winter temp varies from sub-zero in the morning to mid twenties at midday and back to sub-zero in a day!

I can't bear the winter weeks of grey skies and general gloom

Agree about the driving aspect. I live in the FLATNESS of Lincolnshire, so driving TO and FROM work is a nightmare between October and March!! Such a shame, because I like it as a concept. :-(

RockBat · 25/10/2010 16:59

Definitely hate driving in it. Turning out of my road in the morning is nothing short of lethal. You can't see anything at all and it's pretty much a case of grit your teeth, say your prayers and hope for the best.

And I wear sunglasses because the sun makes my eyes water and I would see even less than I do now without them. Nothing to do with loving or not loving the sun :)

jazzchickens · 25/10/2010 17:01

Looks like I am definitely in the minority.

Summer & Spring sun really cheers me up - its only the winter sun that gets me down and I can't really explain why.

I shall go and look for a cave to live in for the next few months Grin

Driving in it can be a pain, but sun in winter (and autumn!) is lovely.
We have just been to the beach today, only 10c but the sun made you feel warm, and the kids had a ball.
And I don't care about any of the other things you mention in the OP - on me, or in my house, or on other people or in their houses.

I have an issue with bright light giving me a headache so I don sunglasses a lot of the time, which makes me look like a nit but a/ protects my eyes and b/ hides much of the damage done by it being so 'merciless'.

If you have an issue with driving in winter sun get yourself some polarized sunglasses - it makes all the difference.
