AIBU to spend Christmas day elsewhere?

So still keeping in line with the namechange.. Christmases are very stressful at my house and we always end up having a blazing row.

AIBU to spend it at a friend's house instead?

perhaps not put a pressure on xmas, this year it's all about the kids.

we are having a buffet lunch, of pizza, wedges, dips ect, staying away from the turkey and tinsil.

perhaps do you family favorite meal and spend the day having fun

My brother insists on doing the family roast, only he tends to get a bit pissed beforehand, then argues.. etc. Last year, we didn't eat until 8pm. I don't think I can take another year of hating and arguing, very temped to take the DP and myself to another location!

It depends,have you actually been invited somewhere else - coz it's a bit cheeky to say "can we come and do xmas with you coz i keep arguing with my brother.

You are a grown up, now with your own family.

If you don't want to do x, y or z then assert yourself and do something else - and Christmas meal at 8pm?!?!? Did your bro' not start cooking till 5pm?!

Even if all you'd rather do is stay in your own home and eat bacon buttes for Christmas lunch, that is your right!! And if your brother says it's tradition, tell him you want to start some of your own.

YANBU - Christmas is over in a day, but you spend a f'ing fortune and loads of time getting ready for it (probably), so spend it how you want to!

Since we've had children we've always spent Xmas at home. Then we can actually spend time with our children, and take the time to enjoy watching them opening/playing with their new stuff without panicking about getting everyone dressed/out of the house/whatever. Sometimes this means we're all still sitting in a pile of wrapping paper in our pjs at 2 in the afternoon, but I don't care.

This year we're also going to have our Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve night, and cook too much so we can have loads of cold nibbles from the fridge to get us through Christmas day & Boxing day without having to cook or faff about with it all - yay!

we had a great chilled christmas last year. breakfast on the beach after opening the presents.
then in the afternoon we went round to our friends house drunk wine while the kids played and had salad. it was fab ( untill boxing hangover!!) but then we all went to the beach again and the parents sat round chatting while the kids played!
