To not feel sorry for people who work in supermarkets?

Right. I wish that farking x factor judges would stop going on about Mary working in a supermarket.

It's not a sodding workhouse for fucks sake,

'i can't believe you used to work in tesco'

why not? Because they're all boggle eyed freaks who have a lobotomy as part of the training?

She worked there for twenty sodding years, she obviously liked it!

It's patronising, rude and offensive to those that work in retail.

(disclaimer - I know I shall get a flambe for watching x factor, I am prepared.)

Couldn't agree more. And she may well end up back in Tesco.

SpookyNoise · 23/10/2010 21:19

Surely working in Tesco is a perfectly respectable job and nothing to be ashamed of. Better than sitting on her bottom doing nothing. So YANBU at all. It is rude and offensive.

MollygoreR · 23/10/2010 21:19

here here!

Eviedidit · 23/10/2010 21:21

so funny & very true Smile

I want to hear her sing a pink song or something with a little catch to it!!!

Simbacat · 23/10/2010 21:21

Sainsburys store manager earns more than a head teacher. In fact it's 16 years since I last worked for them and the store manager then earnt more that some head teachers earn now.

wukterWOOO · 23/10/2010 21:23

Maybe they mean it like 'I can't believe you work at Tesco - you should be belting them out on the west End'

My disclaimer is I didn't watch x-factor.

nancydrewrocked · 23/10/2010 21:23

Surely they just mean "crikey you are soooo talented and to think you've been sitting there unnoticed in Tescos for twenty years"

Hedgeblunder · 23/10/2010 21:27

But Why just supermarkets??
One was a receptionist, one a care worker etc etc prettystandard jobs...

HoneyIatethekidsdragon · 23/10/2010 21:32

Have you noticed they never say "wow how come you never got discovered whilst farting around on the dole?", though Grin

Can't think why Wink

A1980 · 23/10/2010 21:34

I worked at Tesco's when I was a student.

Hedgeblunder · 23/10/2010 21:40

A1980

OMG you were at tesco's all that time and the world missed your ability to loaf around eloquently posting on mumsnet, because you were behind a checkout.

Tis a tragedy Grin

A1980 · 23/10/2010 22:44

It is indeed a tragedy. I am fine now and I survived my experience. People do react with horror though when I tell them Wink
