Have name changed for this, but a very regular long term poster here.

I have had the same mn name for about 7 years. Only v occasionally change if posting something delicate.

Every so often I will search my name, to see if anyone has responded to something I wrote or whatever (maybe after my posts have dropped off my "threads I'm on" thingy)
Anyway I keep finding people responding to another poster's comments but using my nickname (they are similar) and I'm often upset as this poster tends to write quite inflammatory stuff and obviously has a very different stance from me on things like politics, race issues, benefits, education....all those highly emotive issues.

SO my question is, AIBU to worry that people may think its ME who is writing this stuff? I don't want people to think I have these horrid (imo) opinions.

YANBU particularly if the poster is inflammatory - iiwy I would ask the poster to consider a name change - but if they won't theres not much you can do about it other than change your name

Oooh, think I might know who you are as noticed a post, thought it was yours (if you are who I think you are) and did a double take... hmm. Tricky. PM them and explain the confusion.

If they say no, namechange to something which incorporates your old name.

I think I know who you are...incidenally this name I am using right now s a namechange...as I just posted an embarrasing AIBU thread.

I noticed a new user with a name very like someone who I have read a lot from...I knew the difference...it's obvious...have a namechanging thread...if you want people to now who you are and who you are changing to...start a thread about it nder your original name and then end it with your new one.

I'm impressed with all this name-changing, when I joined about a year ago it took me ages before I put Diziet in and it worked!!
I don't know if I could be bothered to change it, TBH!!!
