I mean for crying out loud, look at the frost on the ground

EVERY MORNING

me: where's your coat
dd: oh muuuum it's OK
me: get your coat
dd: but i will have to carry it round with me and I can't be bothered
me: it is FREEZING I have just scraped ice of the windscreen you are NOT going to school with no coat
dd: it's not even COLD mum I will be FINE
me: you will catch your death of cold
dd: I have got a t shirt underneath my shirt that will keep me warm
me: oh for god's sake

EVERY morning. Why do I bother. NONE of the kids at her school ever wear a coat. Bloody teenagers.

they are weird
dd was the same
funnily enough when she got to about 17 she grew out of it and wrapped up

Bonsoir · 21/10/2010 09:29

This is why all the parents I know give in and spend mega-euros on a horrible Moncler (and even worse, Uggs) - because it's the only way to get teens to wear somthing warm...

dmo · 21/10/2010 09:29

my boys are the same

where your coat? its at school
well bring it home
will do

after school_ where is your coat?
at school
AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/10/2010 09:30

Oh yes I am sure if I spent £150 on a Superdry ANORAK she would wear the hideous thing.

But a sensible coat with a hood - no chance.

I feel your pain! The only time I have managed to get my teenager to wear a coat she left it in one lesson and lost it.

GypsyMoth · 21/10/2010 09:31

mine are the same.....however dd1 cracked and wore LAST YEARS COAT!!!! Shock this morning, but she's 6 th form so not as 'crowd led' as her sister!

CrazyPlateLady · 21/10/2010 09:32

Don't bother! If she wants to be cold, thats her problem.

I remember going out in the middle of winter down town, in what can be described as little more than a nightdress (it was an actual dress though) and my nan was bugging me to take a coat. I refused. I was cold. My problem.

Just give no sympathy if she complains. Wink

TrillianSlasher · 21/10/2010 09:33

Does it really realy make any difference to you? She's 14 or 15 right, so even if she is ill you can chuck some lemsip at her and say 'I'm off to work, don't make a mess, byeeeeee'

ShirleyGarrote · 21/10/2010 09:34

Yes.

I have given up. DS left this morning for school (non uniform day) in a t-shirt and a hoody/sweater type thingy.

I just smiled, nodded and said "Have a lovely day!" and then muttered "it's freezing out there, I've bought you innumerable fashionable coats, what is the point? WHAT IS THE POINT?"

Meh, I remember being the same, I wonder whether all the hormones racing around raise the body tmeperature?

Bonsoir · 21/10/2010 09:35

A wool coat is complete non starter for teens IMO.

Duvet jacket (Moncler, Canada Goose, Pyrénex etc) might just cut it.

NordicPrincess · 21/10/2010 09:36

i wouldnt get involved, shes old enough to know that if shes cold she should wear a coat. If she wants to freeze thats fine.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/10/2010 09:36

I know I should just leave it. i remember never wearing my coat either (mind you, that was because it was a lilac batwing sleeved jacket my gran bought from B-Wise).

But it is freezing out there. Stupid child.

With you OP but currently dealing with other problems so have parked the coat issue.

Bloody teenagers indeed

MissAnneElk · 21/10/2010 09:38

My DDs won't wear coats either. DD1 never feels the cold. She went to school yesterday wearing jeans, converse and a tshirt. As she left I was scraping the ice from my windscreen and asked if she had a jumper. Yes, in my bag Hmm.
I bought DD2 a coat because she complained bitterly about not having one. It's still hanging up with the label on it . Suppose if it snow she might wear it.

BeenBeta · 21/10/2010 09:40

I am reliably informed that at DSs senior school no one (boy or girl) takes a coat because there is nowhere to hang them so they end up carrying them around all day.

Doesnt explain why the girls go to school in ballet slippers when it is snowing or pouring with rain though.

ComeWhineWithMe · 21/10/2010 09:41

Getorf -I think it must be a teenage thing.
I shouted down to DS as he was opening the front door this morning "Coat" ......man did his little feet scamper up the path as he pretended he hadn't heard me Hmm.

3plusbumpinthenight · 21/10/2010 09:47

I'm having the same problem with DS1. There is a perfectly nice black (optional) jumper which is part of his school uniform but will he wear it? NO!
If he would wear shirt, jumper and blazer, I could just about cope without him wearing a coat but apparently nobody wears the jumper because they are 'geeky' Hmm

Really glad I went to John Lewis and got two logo'd jumpers at £18 each to sit in the wardrobe.............

Still, I'm not going to stress about it - he's old enough to know when he's cold and when to do something about it!

Loving the sound of your B-wise lilac jacket Wink

HauntingTheTardis · 21/10/2010 09:48

Another one whose teenagers never take coats to school - even when it is pissing down with rain or freezing cold. As BeenBeta says, there is nowhere to leave them and they don't want to cart them round all day.

But if they get cold and wet, that is their decision, and they get no sympathy from me. [hardhearted mother emoticon]

sparkle12mar08 · 21/10/2010 09:54

I'm with the heart of stone mums - I remind/ask once, after that they're on their own Grin

RockBat · 21/10/2010 09:54

I'm trying to remember what we did with our coats in high school...I don't remember schlepping them round with us but I don't remember hanging them anywhere either.

onceamai · 21/10/2010 09:55

Same with sympathies but have given up now. Mine can won't wear a jumper either and as far as I'm concerned he can get cold. Would draw the line at kicking the skirting board though it will end up permanently damaged.

soppypreggyloon · 21/10/2010 09:56

I grew up in Newcastle. No one under the age of 25 knows what a coat is! Seriously! :)
I have spent new years eve in the snow on the quayside in every layer imaginable. The real locals dont feel the cold!
Don't think there's a higher incidence if cold/ flu but maybe they're hardy northerners!

No point nagging- it never got a teenager to do anything. Well it never worked on me!

RamblingRosa · 21/10/2010 10:00

I was the same when I was a teenager. It used to drive my mum mad. I remember refusing to wear a coat even in the snow. I don't remember why really. I just didn't like coats.
