When I grow up.. 125 careers and counting. Like Barbie is an empowering role model! When I grow up I can be anything I want, as long as I'm skinny with big tits obviously..

My dd is 3.6yo and absolutely loves all the Barbie movies. But she has started to notice that all the princesses have blue eyes, and keeps asking me why she doesn't have blue eyes!

She has the most beautiful, huge brown chocolate button eyes, and it is horrifying to me that she is already buying into a generalised version of beauty and perfection.

raindroprhyme · 21/10/2010 09:34

twirlymum · 21/10/2010 09:36

My DD1 wanted a Moxie Girl last year, and having had a good look at them they actually seemed quite nice; the one we picked had jeans, trainers, a laptop, glasses but still looked 'cool' and interesting. Most of the Bratz dolls are dressed like hookers. Blech. The only Bratz we have bought have been a winter one with coat, mittens, Uggs etc (still in a miniskirt though!) and a racing driver Bratz in a (still lurid and tight) pink overall.
I just don't see the sanity in giving young girls ridiculously proportioned dolls in slutty clothes... And I have to LOL at the Barbie doll who is a 'baby doctor' because we can't say 'paediatrician'!

Do they still do pregnant barbie? I used to love the way she went from pregnant to super barbie slim in a slight dress adjustment, and i wonder why I'm disappointed it's taken me almost a year to get anywhere close to my old shape (and of course all the cake and coffee mornings had nothing to do with that :))

Eurgh Barbie, YADNBU, It is so fake and not something I would want my DD to think she she had to look like in order to be beautiful.

wahwahwah · 21/10/2010 16:09

I loved the 'Barbie Animal Doctor' (a few years back).

Er is she so thick she doesn't know that she is actually a vet?

Have Bratz dies a death yet? I really find those creepy.

I never liked those little plasticy dolls when I was little.

Isn't there a fantasy island or something Barbie? It looks like the Playboy mansion to me (hottubs, water slides....). I do go a bit Taliban when I see the ad 'can't they put some clothes on???'.
