to think people who don't bath/wash their DCs every night are lazy?

I am shocked by the amount of people on here who state that they only bathe/wash their DCs once or twice a week. OK bad cases of excema accepted, I just think that's soooo lazy. No one IRL I know leaves it that long so is it just a peculiar Mumsnet trait because they are too busy MNing?

DTS1 has excema btw, I just cover him in an emollient before he gets in the bath and it does not exercerbate it.

I mean, come on, babies and toddlers in nappies, older Dcs not very efficient at bum wipeing - how can people leave them to fester for days?

In the 'olden days' when tin baths had to be got out and water boiled in a copper pot, obviously it was not possible every day but nowadays that's not the case.

Also my DCs love RELAXING in the bath/shower. It's not only for cleanliness. They love feeling warm, clean and comfortable before getting into bed. Even my 12 week old starts getting excited just from me taking him upstairs of an evening because he knows he's going in the bath and he adores it.

Do all these people, who only bath their DCs twice a year, have a bath/shower every day themselves? Bet they do! Feel sorry for the poor DCs.

Lol tortoise! Grin
I had no idea how common eczema is among children. I'm surprised my ds doesn't have it or dry skin - especially as he's bathed daily. That's not a judgement btw, I just feel very lucky he doesn't have it as I did and it was horrid. I also wish I'd known there were so many others with it so I didn't feel so alone in it for those years.
Ok, bit of a tangent there. Back to everyone saying why one should/should not wash daily.

blackwidowspider · 20/10/2010 09:26

I sew my DDs into their clothes and they get a bath once a year

SoloBlackWidowSpidersWebSite · 20/10/2010 10:18

Which is obviously a very quick task to acheive with your eight legs much like mine bws. Grin

WilfShelf · 20/10/2010 10:23

I'm sure everyone has already said the following but:

  1. Fark off
  1. I do hope you offset your unnecessary energy/water usage in others ways? I do hope you will be taxed on it in future. Get yer head out of yer arse.
WilfShelf · 20/10/2010 10:23

That to OP, not scary spider type lady obv Grin

YABtotallyU.
Unless you just really enjoy bathing, it's a pointless waste of time and water to bathe little kids every day. They don't sweat the way adults do and face/hands/bum will be washed several times each day anyway.

DancingHippoOnAcid · 20/10/2010 10:37

blackwidowspider - you have the right idea, remember the old saying "cast ne'er a clout till may be out" Grin

NotanOtter · 20/10/2010 21:25

my dcs must be odd cos they maul each other- touch their bums and willies - go into rank school /public loos and run their hands down the walls.. they play all over public parks touching stuff ten sqillion other kids have touched (after touching their own bums and picking bogies sucking fingers)

no they don't sweat etc but i like them to be properly clean every night before bed. I can be quite lazy - bathing them is a two minute job

I can 'smell' them in the car on the way back from school!

JoBettany · 20/10/2010 21:36

I agree NotanOtter. However I do think is up to everyone what they decide to do with their own DC's.

For my own DS it is a really simple rule -

no bath or shower = a sweaty, unclean boy
daily bath or shower = clean boy.

I would also feel a bit sorry for his teacher!

lady007pink · 20/10/2010 21:42

Twice weekly, more often if they get dirty.

YABVVunbelievablyU

That is such a waste of water, so environmentally unfriendly. We only had a bath once weekly growing up, we were never sick and we were healthy as trouts. As adults, we have showers every day.

A little bit of dirt does a child no harm.

NotanOtter · 20/10/2010 21:58

as long as none of you environmentalists EVER fly then i can see your argument ( nor use disposables or wash in a machine more than one load a day)

I am not judging ANYONE for washing their kids less - that's your perogative. My three smalls share a bath once a day ( small tub bath at that) - i don't feel the need to justify that

clemetteattlee · 20/10/2010 22:12

I never fly (DC don't have passports), used washables and wash less than one load a day. Do I win a prize? Wink

NotanOtter · 20/10/2010 22:14

clem Grin I think you may well!

clemetteattlee · 20/10/2010 22:23

I am just off for a bath of my own though (and I had a kiwi fruit for tea) so I think I am disqualified...

nappyaddict · 21/10/2010 12:08

My DS does all that too NAO Grin For me a hand and face wash suffices though.
