To find people who give their daughters the nickname "Moo" annoying?

I know it's only a small thing but it's so irritating; whatever happened to a bit of originality? I know about 5 people that call their DD's "Moo" as a nickname.

Some of our close friends have a DD called Molly, and they call her Molly-Moo constantly. We have had to endure the tale again and again about how up until the age of 5 "Molly-Moo" thought her real middle name was Moo. Oh the hilarity of it!

I post on another forum and there is a woman on there who's DD also has a name beginning with M, and she calls her Moo, too. Every post is about "Moo" and "Moo did this" rather than her proper name.

There are also some other mums at the school that call their DD's this. What makes me laugh is they all think they're being so clever and original, when they're not. Find a more original nickname!

My DCs are known as;

Sausage-man
The Captain/Cap
Oily Pot

Sorry! God knows what people think when they hear us talking, but I don't worry about it too much!

ZZZenAgain · 18/10/2010 21:07

laweaselmys · 18/10/2010 21:11

Moo-pie in this house.

I'm quite amused that calling DD that in public may insight rage...

wuglet · 18/10/2010 21:12

HeadlessPrinceBilly - my sister was also (still is) a fanackerpan! Mostly swiched to panny-annski by my dad.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 18/10/2010 21:17

I call DD1 Bun-bun as well. Although as she is now a teenager I wouldn't risk it in public.
DD2 won't allow the use of her pet name anymore, even at home.
DD3 is Shocker.

ZZZenAgain · 18/10/2010 21:19

lol

yes I was told not to call her nicknames in public but I am so forgetful, I keep slipping up

Those of you that affectionately add "Moo" onto your DD's name, do you use it when talking about your child, for example at parents evening to her teacher?

No. To her teacher I call her Mollie, as that is her name. I have said it in front of close friends or family though, and they have been known to use pet forms too to her. Mind you, her nursery teachers and a few of our friends often called her Miss Mollie, still do at times.

ind you, I use pet names with friends children all the time too.

Heck. I even use pet names with the chidren in my Y1 class!

StephanieSays · 18/10/2010 21:24

I dont know any Moos.

nn are good, generally.

LauraNorder · 18/10/2010 21:27

We call DD Moo, Millie Moo, it came about after living in Cyprus for 3 years, as others have said they use it all the time out there. It kind of stuck.

Don't think it's funny though or clever, or original, just a term of endearment.

You'd never hear us using it though as we only tend to use it at home so hope we're not too annoying Smile

FlyingInTheCLouds · 18/10/2010 21:31

We have a moo

and a boo

and a woo

and a flap (as in Jack)

and many more, I love nns, and the dcs do too.

MrsRhettKilledTheButler · 18/10/2010 21:32

well my dd's nn hasn't been mentioned so it must be original and witty!

her nn is noo-noo

Grin i would just love to know what the op calls her dc

Creeeakkkingdarkalley · 18/10/2010 21:33

i have a bee bee bum bum ( sometimes also know as MissMoo)

and a saus ( short for sausage obviously Grin)

lal123 · 18/10/2010 21:35

DD2 is wee Maia Moo Cow, but gets Maia Mo in public. Didn't realise that we had to be imaginative with nicknames as well as proper names now??

animula · 18/10/2010 21:47

I'm amazed at the deletions!!

And I'm a bit paranoid now that people are judging me when I use nicknames. It never, ever, ever crossed my mind that this might be something people even think about. Let alone, ponder, mull, and fret on; eventually dragging it home to their lair to seethe over.

Wow.

I've noticed that I use endearments a lot, and have started sliding into eccentric old age, with the occasional lapse into said endearments when addressing "young people" in shops. Now that's not good.

Lougle · 18/10/2010 21:59

It's none of your business, OP.

DD1 is Millie-moo, millie-monkey, squilly, millie-mumpkin.

DD2 is Jaz, Jazzy, Jazzy-wazzle, wazzle, wazz, Joey (contraction of first and middle name), Joey-jaz.

DD3 is smileyislay, smiler, beauty, etc.

I generally speaking call DD1 and DD3 by their first names in public, but DD2, well it just depends. If I collect her from preschool, I might say as I start to walk out "come on Jaz" or even "wazzle, let's go" - but that is for her ears, not for anyone else. Tough luck.

FrameyMcFrame · 18/10/2010 22:24

I call my youngest boinky or dubbard... {blush]

But I would never dream of doing so in public!
It's my pet name for him and not for others to hear... or broadcast over facebook.
So Op YANBU, I feel your irritation.

Jacanne · 18/10/2010 22:52

I don't have an egg, bean and loo-la but I do have a moo, bean and loo-la. I'm laughing that there are another Bean and Loo-la in the MN universe - I wonder if their first names are the same. Actually dd1 is better know as Moosifer rather than Moo.

animula · 18/10/2010 22:54

I'm another with a "Bean".

I'm really envious of the "Young Padwan" further up the thread.

chipmonkey · 18/10/2010 23:15

I call ds3 and ds4 "Buddy-boo" all the time and would like to point out that I did this LONG before Jamie and Jools had their little boy.

I call ds1 Greggle-Peggle, Ds2 MaccaPacca, ds3 Tombliboo and ds4 Harry-The-Lamb.

But mostly only at home, especially as ds1 is 14 and would be mortified!

MoralDefective · 19/10/2010 00:57

GollyMissMolly · 19/10/2010 00:59
