To think my brother and sister are too old to share a bed

My sister (24) and my brother(15) are going on holiday to Turkey together in a week and I've just learnt that they are going to be in a double and so sharing a bed. AIBU to think this is really inappropriate and that they are way too old to still be sharing a bed. DH says I'm being silly

They'll be in a twin. I bet.

I think it's a bit weird but I'm a prude.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 16/10/2010 19:49

It wouldn't occur to me to think anything about it. they're kipping down together. Assume they're doing it to save money are they? Why a double and not twin beds though?

cory · 16/10/2010 19:50

As long as your brother is a reliable person, I think it's fine. Shared with my dad when I was 17- because we were on holiday and the hotel only had a double bed. Never thought of it as inappropriate.

Assuming they have a normal sibling relationship I wouldn't think too much of it.

lerole · 16/10/2010 19:54

I have no idea why she didn't book a twin room instead of a double but dsis does some strange things at the best of times

OP posts:
cory · 16/10/2010 19:55

They may not have had twin rooms.

Appletrees · 16/10/2010 19:57

Might have been a mistake. Double / twin you can get muddled up, often you book a room for two, expect a double, get a twin, maybe things happened the other way round -- maybe she booked a room for two, they looked at the two names and thought, husband and wife, and assigned a double.

inveteratenamechanger · 16/10/2010 19:58

What do you think is going to happen? Men and women can share a bed without any sexual shenanigans, you know.

HoneyIatethekidsdragon · 16/10/2010 19:58

I last shared a bed with my brother (iirc) when I was 17 and he was 26, and that was camping - thought nothing of it.

lerole · 16/10/2010 19:59

Obviously I know thats nothing is going to happen but it just seems a little weird.

Odd to have an issue with this IMO. Do you think you would be unable to control yourself if it was you sharing with your brother?

I just don't get why you'd think so otherwise. Very strange.

pozzled · 16/10/2010 20:03

I don't think it's weird, although they probably won't sleep that well as they'll be paranoid about staying as far away from each other as possible!

OnceUponA · 16/10/2010 20:06

It's creepy that you would find anything inappropriate about this.

ComeScareWithMe · 16/10/2010 20:08

Go on admit it you've been watching Brookside reruns haven't you and let your mind go into overdrive? Grin Hmm.

VictoriasLittleKnownSecret · 16/10/2010 20:11

Please don't say anything to them.

It's incredibly rude to suggest a sexual situation to people who could be horrified by it

alfabetty · 16/10/2010 20:12

I think the lack of privacy would bother me - I'd share a room with my bro for a night quite happily, and I guess a bed isn't much difference, if I had to - but not for a week.

Bue · 16/10/2010 20:17

I agree with OnceUponA - the creepy part is that you find this creepy.

FlyingInTheCLouds · 16/10/2010 20:19

me too bue

Ewe · 16/10/2010 20:21

I am 23 and recently shared a bed with my ten yr old brother for one night when we had loads of family staying. He's my brother. Why is it odd? I would share a bed with my 17yr old sis too.

BertieBasset · 16/10/2010 20:23

I wouldn't want to share a bed with either of my brothers. Nothing wrong with them I just wouldn't want to be in that close proximity to my semi naked hairy arsed brother.

SpookyNoise · 16/10/2010 20:25

On a personal level, I wouldn't be comfortable with it, but lots of people would.
Ewe, a 10 year old is more acceptable than a 15 year old, I think.

TrillianSlasher · 16/10/2010 20:26

Probably there was not a choice of double/twin, just 'room for 2 people'. I'm assuming it's ensuite so they can get changed in the bathroom if they want.

GeorgetteHeyer · 16/10/2010 20:26

I wouldn't think anything of it - DB and I last shared a room last year, when I was 30 and he was 29 - absolutely nothing there except saving money!

I'd be horrified if anyone suggested anything inappropriate about it - we're brother and sister, it's not like it's every night or anything, for a holiday we could do it (if you take out of the equation his wife and baby!!) but we would drive each other nuts if it was a regular occurance.

CrazyPlateLady · 16/10/2010 20:35

When I first thought about it, I thought it may be a bit odd, but then I thought if it was me sharing with either of my brothers and I wouldn't think anything of it at all.
