To think my brother and sister are too old to share a bed

My sister (24) and my brother(15) are going on holiday to Turkey together in a week and I've just learnt that they are going to be in a double and so sharing a bed. AIBU to think this is really inappropriate and that they are way too old to still be sharing a bed. DH says I'm being silly

I shared a bed with my brother when he was 16 and me 15 during a trip to someone's house (a couple of nights)

It was great because when he farted, I could kick him in the bollocks really easily Grin

lerole · 16/10/2010 20:47

I don't think anything inappropriate is going to go on as I'm confident my sister is not an incestous paedophile but it still strikes me as being strange.

newstart2010 · 16/10/2010 20:49

I do not think it is strange, my brother is 19 and i am 26, i would share a bed with him if i had to, but prefer not to as he snors.

OP how old are you? Just wondering really, but as you are all from the same family I would have thought you would have thought the same about things like sharing a bed with each other.

lerole · 16/10/2010 20:52

I'm 32

the only reason i wouldnt share with either of my dbs is cos they snore and fart - i know this cos their wives have moaned to me about them! Grin

IloveJudgeJudy · 16/10/2010 21:52

Why would you think this is strange? They're brother and sister. My DC (15 and 13 or 13 and 11) have to share a bed when we're on holiday. We and they don't think anything of it.

Has something happened in the past? I think it's a bit weird that you think it's weird, actually.

MamzelleDupont · 16/10/2010 21:59

Not strange. I only have sisters so can't compare personally but if DP(26) shared a bed with his sister(17) i wouldn't think anything of it at all.

SenSationsMad · 16/10/2010 21:59

Yuck!

ShirleyGarrote · 16/10/2010 22:05

get some small semblance of a grip on

KittyTwoShoes · 16/10/2010 22:05

I don't think it's strange. When I go home from uni my little brother sometimes comes to sleep in my bed with me - I'm 20, he's 13. My 18 year old brother has slept in the bed with me when there's been a family crisis, too.

ArmyBarmyMummy · 16/10/2010 22:12

When just out of uni and a v poor ex student with loans to pay etc etc (very frightened to just think this was 18 yrs ago), me and my sister went on a cheepy holiday for a week in Ibitha off the teletext. Shared a bed no problem but had hilarious fun with couple on same holiday who thought we must be lesbians! (we didn't look very alike) Grin

ArmyBarmyMummy · 16/10/2010 22:15

I really should read what I write before I post it. Should have said fun at the couple's expense rather than making it sound like a sex orgie! Blush

brimfull · 16/10/2010 22:16

My initial reaction is that it's a teeny bit odd.

sausagelover · 16/10/2010 22:21

I think it is a bit odd tbh. Last time I shared a bed with my best friend I spooned her in my sleep Shock She told me in the morning haha.

In saying that, if I had to, I would share a bed with my sister who is 15 and I am 27.

If at all possible though I'd defo go for twin beds!

domeafavour · 16/10/2010 22:32

I'm 40, my brother is 33, sister is 36, wouldn't think twice if I had to share with them. Wouldn't book it that way, cos we'd all like a bit of space. Also wouldn't worry if I had to share with mum or dad. I think it's weird to think it's strange, sorry .

greenbananas · 16/10/2010 22:36

I don't think it's odd. I think it's odd that you're worrying. I have shared beds, sofas and floorspace with band members and fellow students many times (some years ago now) and none of us thought it was strange.

domeafavour · 16/10/2010 22:40

Are you the older sister?

duchesse · 16/10/2010 22:49

I suspect that my 17yo son, if requested to share a room with any of his sisters, would rather sleep on the floor or in the bath, and would have done since about the age of 10. I'm sure other boys and other families are different though.

faeriefruitcake · 16/10/2010 22:52

Doesn't really matter how old you get, you're not going to be having sex with each other so where you sleep is irrelevent.

This says more about your dirty mind than it does about the fact your brother and sister don't have a problem with sharing space.

celticlassie · 16/10/2010 22:54

On holiday you rarely get doubles anyway, it tends to be twin beds pushed together.

EightiesChick · 16/10/2010 22:58

Yep, looking at your OP you have assumed that a double room means a double bed - in my experience this is rarey so, and it's very likely that either way, they will be able to ask for twin beds and get them.

duvetcover · 16/10/2010 22:58

FFS. The OP was unsure about something so posted on here for some reassurance that her siblings are normal. No need for everyone to get on her case about it.

Hi lerole: there's no age limit for siblings to share a bed as long as it's their choice. I'm glad that they get along well enough to consider it. So relax and wish them happy travels.

I've got a 13 year old brother and would have no issues sharing a bed with him and I'm 25. What do you think shes going to shag her underage brother.

EricNorthmansMistress · 17/10/2010 12:44

I wouldn't share a bed with any of my DBros because I don't like sharing beds with anyone other than sex partners or DS. I wouldn't like to share with my mum or my best friend either. I would if I really had to but thankfully being married with DS it's unlikely to arise. Last time DBro and I shared a room at Granny's funeral I had double bed and he had ready bed. Booking a double rather than a twin is weird and I'd be annoyed by it, so YANBU to think it's a weird decision. I don't think the OP ever thought her siblings would be up to anything gross!
