To be so angry at Natwest stealing our money

DH was owed almost £4,000 from a tenant which they said they would put into his account on Wednesday (not sure if this was via BACS or cheque) which they did.

The money was never credited to DH's account, it was waiting to be cleared.

However this has bounced and Natwest have taken the almost £4,000 from his account to refund the original bank without ever paying it into his account. This has caused us to go overdrawn.

So not only have we not got the £4,000 we were owed from the tenant, we are now a further £4,000 down due to Natwest stealing our money.

Natwest say that this will take 5 working days to resolve!! Furious is not the word. Surely they can't do this?

They haven't stolen it, they've monumentally fucked up. They will resolve it and you will demand no charges and some little compensation and an apology.

5 days to sort it out is taking the piss.

I assume when this is sorted you will be changing banks?

LoubyLoubyLouLa · 15/10/2010 18:46

Do you think that they would actually give a shit if we changed banks? Probably not.

No, I'm sure they wouldn't.

But why should they benefit from your money?

Also, that's part of the problem - people just accept shit service from the bank, because they can't be arsed to change over.

Well, banks know that so they don't have to try to keep their customers!

If they knew that we all voted with our feet, perhaps they'd lose a bit of their arrogance.

If nothing else, changing banks makes you feel like you didn't just roll over and take it up the shitter.

Yes, you are right Queen.

It will not take 5 days to sort out.
Get back on the phone and tell them to put it in your account now.
they can debit a suspense account, it's their fuck up

BelieveInLife · 15/10/2010 19:55

Complain to the Ombudsman.

deathjeff · 15/10/2010 20:01

Tell them you'll go to the papers.

bandgeek · 15/10/2010 20:27

You need to lodge a complaint with NatWest first before you can go to the Ombodsman - have they raised an official complaint for you? It's the best way to get things sorted sometimes. Ask to speak to a manager and actually say the words 'I want to make a complaint' (sorry if you have already done so!)

KathyImLost · 15/10/2010 21:23

I used to work for a bank. When someone threatened to leave I would be able to see all their balances on screen. If they were in the red then I didn't have to persuade them otherwise. If their balance was a healthy one, I had to do whatever it took to make them happy (within reason).

It does not take 5 days to sort out, they're taking the piss. Ask to speak to a supervisor. Lodge a formal complaint.

pippylongstockings · 15/10/2010 21:38

I work for a bank - they have f'd up for sure, they should have some sort of suspense a/c to take this money from not your actual bank account.

Complain. Tell them you want to complain - ask to speak to a manager - ask for an area managers number - ask for their complaints depatments number in head office.

You should NOT be paying for the fact that someone elses payment has bounced.

Good luck.

CwtchyBlueMama · 15/10/2010 21:41

Complain, then switch to first direct, they are bloody brilliant.

pippylongstockings · 15/10/2010 21:48

Ohh yes - First Direct, I would 2nd the fact that they are fab - I have banked with them for about 15 years!

I don't work for them - my bank employers insist I have a bank a/c with them for my wages to be paid into but I don't bank with them.

deathjeff · 16/10/2010 00:36

I used to work for FirstDirect... that makes me quite proud!

I no longer work for them but I've moved alllll my cash over to them because the service is truly fab imho.
