My poor nan is in hospital after having a stroke, I spoke to my grandad who said she was desperate to see us and it would "keep her going" to see myself DH and our two sons.
I told him eldest child was ill and off school with an upset tummy, he said it doesnt matter bring him anyway it would make her so happy.

During the drive to the hospital, my son said he had spots on his thumb, i thought nothing of it really, after we visited her, i noticed ds had spots all on his hands and on further inspection his feet and knees were covered.

He has chicken pox!

my poor nan if she gets it she will be so ill! i am such an idiot!

Perhaps you should let the doctors know?

WhoAteAgentZigzagsBrain · 15/10/2010 16:01

Oh my goodness you're not an idiot, how were you to know.

You sound like you love your nan very much and would never put her knowingly at risk.

Would it be worth mentioning it to someone at the hospital, just in case anyone gets it and they can be on the look out?

Deliaskis · 15/10/2010 16:03

sulk oh dear, I can see why you're upset, but try not to be too hard on yourself, it can't be helped now, and it's not like you knew that's what it was and thought sod it we'll go anyway.

Do you know if your nan has had chicken pox/shingles? She might be immune? And I don't think a stroke would make her immuno-compromised (although am not an expert so can't be sure).

Try not to beat yourself up over this. You didn't do it on purpose.

Of course you didn't do it on purpose, you must be distraught. My DH's granny has just had shingles.

I wouldn't take a child with an upset stomach to a hospital though, regardless of the chicken pox.

Theincrediblesulk1 · 15/10/2010 16:08

My aunt has told the hospital i told her yesterday as soon as we realised. I have no clue if she has had it before, i hope she has, but all the others in the hospital too! oh mu god i feel awful!

I know no one will die from it, but if they are ill any way its the last thing anyone would need. :(

I do love my poor nanny xx

Oh you poor thing (and your nan and DS). I hope everyone gets better soon.

I would let the hospital know that she's inadvertantly had exposure to someone with infectious chicken pox. Fingers crossed she's had it already or she hasn't caught anything and it'll all be fine, but it's best to let them know.

It's not your fault though. :)

Theincrediblesulk1 · 15/10/2010 16:09

I only did it because my grandad was so insistent. And my dad was sobbing on the phone saying he thought she was going to die!

Also he seemed much better too.

Please don't be so hard on yourself over it.You didn't know and in all likely hood your nan would have had them already.I would warn the hospital so they can keep an eye out though and I'm sure your visit would have done her the world of good.

MackerelOfFact · 15/10/2010 16:10

Oh x-post. It is unfortunate but it's one of those things. You'd not have taken him if you'd been in any doubt.

sianyc18 · 15/10/2010 16:13

sorry x post
